The long DIVA thread

U-he now has a range of soft synths, i.e. the big ones Zebra2, ACE (which will become part of Berlin Mod), and now DIVA.
May I ask a question?
What is/will be the sonic difference between the three? I don't mean the way they process, the look, the feel, or anything to do with features . . . purely just the sound! I realize every synth has it's own character and it's personal taste and all, but in general . . . what is each of the three's strong point sound wise?

My guess is that it will be good for bass and lead sounds ... but if you upgrade your CPU than it will also be great for keys, pads...

Really impossible to say. Every U-He synth can do everything really. I wouldn't use Bazille for pads though (at least not in this early alpha stage).
I bought ACE for analogue bass/lead sounds and modular madness but I quickly noticed that it can do far more than that. I got some awesome pads out of it for example
Cheers

There's also FilterscapeVA (comes with Filterscape).
They're all fairly different. The overlap between Ace, Z2, Bazille and FilterscapeVA is minuscle, they're simply different types of synths.
Diva is different again, specificly because of the interface. The limitation of modules and parameters invites to do other things musically than the complexity found in the existing synths. The synth closest to her is FilterscapeVA, and yet they're worlds apart.
Even if a fair bit of Diva's algorithms make it into Zebra or Berlin Modular, they'll still appeal to another type of interaction.
And of course, Diva has some unique features too. None of the other synths can have delayless feedback from VCA back to the mixer/filter section.

A patch I made for the supersaw thread: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Mus ... adDemo.mp3
And an ACE patch: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Music/Supersaw.mp3
And just to prove that ACE can spit out some nice pads: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Music/Angels.mp3
This is an old demo. The patch sounds even better now
I love U-He synths!

Let me try this another way . . .
What sound will Diva be able to produce better than any other U-he Synth?
If you had the whole suite of U-he synths, which many of you have (especially Urs), which one would you first think of going to if you needed:
Bass
Strings/Pad
Lead
Arps
Etc.

the demo licenses are very generous, the best way to understand this is to try it for yourself.
Not all leads/pads/basses are the same right? Hopefully you aren't looking for "the one best pad" or "the one best lead" that's just the wrong approach to music in general (imo). They can have different character and that's where the different synths come in.
Roughly speaking, ACE is great as a rich, detailed, analog emulation. Zebra is more for modern hi-fi sound design (but can be a VA as well). If you're doing soundtracks, you might go with zebra, whereas if you're doing acid techno, you might go with ACE. But each of these synths is powerful enough to do some of everything. I haven't tried DIVA, but I'm sure it will have it's own character.
Again, best to try for yourself, after a certain point, talking about sounds is like dancing about ... etc etc.
