Seriously, some comments just don't warrant an answer. Damn, now I've answered it! Oh well, such is the nature of forums.
Back to playing Diva.
he used a nord example to disprove the claim made by someone else "that the vco sawtooth sounded like the nordlead"hakey wrote:Ah, but he used the Nord Lead comparison as evidence to support his criticism, thus the responses he got weren't entirely unjustified, whether that was due to 'fanboy sindrom[sic]' or not.olikana wrote:some guys here just enjoy jumping on others without even reading or comprehending other ppls posts. it wasn't Shy to say it sounded like a nordlead (infact it was Stabbman)...Shy just proved it did not.
then he carried on sayin it sounded muffled and all other the place compared to the nord and other his other synths.
(and I'm unashamedly a fan, oh well, silly me...)
so a misunderstanding... good, thread can now carry on without any further mention of the Nord as it has been proven that Diva does not in fact sound like a Nord.olikana wrote:he used a nord example to disprove the claim made by someone else "that the vco sawtooth sounded like the nordlead"hakey wrote:Ah, but he used the Nord Lead comparison as evidence to support his criticism, thus the responses he got weren't entirely unjustified, whether that was due to 'fanboy sindrom[sic]' or not.olikana wrote:some guys here just enjoy jumping on others without even reading or comprehending other ppls posts. so what other example should he have used ?
then he carried on talking in general terms.
an intelligent post....and this is even more true for minimoogs (i think urs modelled the "3 oscillator" module on a modelD).ksandvik wrote:It was inevitable that some would compare DIVA to their specific synthesizer. As many know, resistors, capacitors and other analog components age differently. Thus, let's say two Jupiter-8 will not sound the same after 20+ years out there.

No, much of that general criticism preceded the samples - thus it very much looked like the samples were supporting evidence for that criticism.olikana wrote:he used a nord example to disprove the claim made by someone else "that the vco sawtooth sounded like the nordlead"

Thanks! (I was lazy... hehehe)justin3am wrote:For those who want strict tuning across all voices, I created a template with all the VCO detune trimmers, drift and max detune set to zero.

That's what i meant. Or better, adding that the Nord wasn't a target for DIVA.pdxindy wrote:so a misunderstanding... good, thread can now carry on without any further mention of the Nord as it has been proven that Diva does not in fact sound like a Nord.
Thank you as ever Justin!justin3am wrote:For those who want strict tuning across all voices, I created a template with all the VCO detune trimmers, drift and max detune set to zero.

Just suppose that it could be shown that the emulated components within DIVA are indistinguishable (subjectively and/or objectively) from the hardware they're based upon, would your criticism stand?Shy wrote:I don't feel like again expanding with more examples or explanations or reading that this is such a great emulation modeled on great analog synths that sound just as good as it and worse in some cases. I'll just comment that developers should strive for much better results than this. The progress so far has been insufficient to say the least.
C'mon hakey! Do we really need to do that here?hakey wrote:Just suppose that it could be shown that the emulated components within DIVA are indistinguishable (subjectively and/or objectively) from the hardware they're based upon, would your criticism stand?Shy wrote:I don't feel like again expanding with more examples or explanations or reading that this is such a great emulation modeled on great analog synths that sound just as good as it and worse in some cases. In other words, are you saying that there are two possibilities: 1. DIVA is a poor emulation; or, in the case of it being a demonstrably perfect emulation, 2. the synths in question weren't worth emulating in the first place?
If not, what are you saying?
Urs & co. did everything they could to optimize Diva (save for spreading the voices over multiple cores, so Diva is currently not multicore compatible). The zero-delay filters take a lot of CPU because every sample gets evaluated multiple times before it's actually matched to the expected output. It's what it is - and dualcores are not enough for it. 4 or 8 cores will work much better when multicore voice spreading is enabled. Upgrade to i5, or even better, i7.mage2011 wrote:Are there any options for optimization?
