URS, you f**king ROCK. ive been waiting for a synth from you i can just jump into (zebra and ACE are both quite intimidating for a starter) and this is IT, amazing f**king sound and easy to use from the start, all while on a student budget! my uhbik and diva are going to be amazing friends

request: anyway to get a few skin options?

now it looks like a Diva... :hihi:
haha :hihi:
Actually, with a slightly more... tactfully chosen purple, and the middle bit in just the right pale pink, I think she'd look very pretty.
So far xoxos' Aurora is the only synth I've got with a girly colour scheme :uhuhuh:
indeed... just make it for fun .. but still working with this color scheme hehe
lets see how it looks in the future.. i imagine some amazing skins.. but of course the look is secondary

I'm still stunned how good it sounds to my ears... Urs is a genius :D
and I was collecting money for a Little Phatty but now I'm really thinking about

I can't say I noticed a lot of aliasing in Diva.

But I think you need to add that "Muffle" parameter you mentioned. This should smoothen the highs and make them more silky and airy, rather than harsh and sometimes brittle. Yes, emulate the crosstalk and noise if possible, too. :) Go for the whole nine yards, the ultimate analogue emulation!

;)

re skinning... we're also working on a new image format that will accelerate gui opening times and provide for sharper resized images (think wavelet-ish stuff). This will make the classical skinning rather difficult, so we're thinking of maybe providing a Photoshop file or something.

Nevertheless, the current png-based stuff will still work.

OTOH I'm contemplating built-in hue, brightness and saturation, as we're now working on bitmp level anyway...

Urs, remember when I asked you about retriggering the envelopes when sustain pedal is being held and I'm doing hammer-on pull-off repetitions between one held key and the other key being tapped, in monophonic mode, for Zebra?

I'm missing that in Zebra still. And all your other synths, including Diva...

@u-he
Great tip on the oscillator level section. Easy to overlook things like that when limited to the mouse for programming.
It really helped to lower the levels and I must say the MS-20 hipass filter is incredible. Started laughing when it started screaming (does that make a bad person?).

Oh ya the muffle parameter would be very helpful indeed.

re muffle... when I hook the analogues uprecently I'm always surprised how flat and IMHO even dull they sound. They sound great, rich, full. But not as direct as Diva anymore. That's a very subjective impression, maybe because I've been working with her a lot over the past few months and got used to that.

I might add an eq-type thing that matches the overall frequency response of Diva with e.g. the Junos. That could be in the fx section then.

I don't tnink it's anything though that can't be fixed with a bit of filtering. There's no magic. There's just transfer functions, and settng them up for more neutral sound as in Diva is better than leaving anything out that can't be put back in.

It's in the back of my mind. Did you try "mono" trigger mode in MSEGs yet?

Post

off to bed now... loads of work to do tomorrow!

Post

Nope, MSEGs don't work either. When I press the sustain pedal, it "eats" the key-offs and I can't continue to play my hammer-on-pull-off legato while sustain is pressed :(

It's a very common soloing technique. Perhaps not all old analogs could do it, but it's what I sorely miss in all your synths. When I wrote about the same issue to MadGav (of VAZ Modular fame), he managed to implement it within one or two beta builds, what a great guy! I'm not saying that you aren't, though ;) So, here's an idea for Diva at least, since it's public beta and still being worked upon/stuff being fixed and added. :)

EDIT: Good night, Urs!

Ordered this up a while ago. Probably don't need to be spending more money but hey, one payment and this DIVA will treat me good for a long time :)

I feel this statement is even more true than with Zebra (in a similar Dinosaur crossgrade action). :)
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.
