I forgot one!

Ensoniq SQ-80 filter, envelopes, oscillator waveforms! ;)

Yeah, we have SQ8L, but the wait for SQ8X and extended features has really been long in the tooth...

I guess the Polyvoks(sp?) is one, though I don't know enough about it to comment. And nothing sounds quite like a 303. One might argue that divide down oscillators have an identifiable sound. Any more? Vactrol filters?
d16 already did a near perfect 303 emulation.

Okay, hmm, how does that relate to my post?

Haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know, if it was already mentioned, but what we totally need is the sound of those:
Roland MKS-80
Roland MKS-70

Hmmm... MKS-80 is pretty much Jupiter 6 oscillators with alpha Juno filters, no? (or was it Jupiter 8 Oscs with Jupiter 6 filters?)

MKS70 is interesting, haven't been able to bid high enough on eBay yet.

This, I believe. :)

I have no clue .. never owned any of those, nor did some further comparison listening.

I just found that site some years ago, listened to the sound-examples, understood, what people were talking about when they were speaking about "that analog sound, which sadly isn't recreated convincingly by any softsynth yet", and fell in love with it.

But maybe I'm fooled. After all the times of "yeah, softsynths can" and "no, they can't" I'm actually not sure anymore, what's right.
I already was in both camps and changed my mind a few times. If I had the time, I'd do a proper mega-blind-test.

Some examples for sounds I think I wasn't able to get out of softsynths yet:

ePiano-types:

I-62
I-64
I-74

Mallet-types:
I-17
I-57
A4 African Mallets
B4 Metal On Wood

those typical basses:

I-51
I-71
I-76

Some kind of MKS-70/JX-8p/JX-10 emulation would be awesome.
People always talk about the Jupiter 8 and the Juno 60 but my favorite Roland synth is actually the JX-8p
I have no idea what's so special about it but the pads of this synth simply can't be replicated by anything else.
And listen to some of the Mallet/E-Piano patches on Synthmania (someone posted the link already). I never heard such brilliant metallic things from another analog synth.

The MKS-80 is mixed and matched between the different Jupiters iirc. It's pretty much a Jupiter 8 but is has some features of the Jupiter 6 (The "Wide" mode of the osc tune for example).

Cheers
Dennis

well with the PG8X synth you have most of the MKS70 and the MKS80 is very close to the JP6...I had an MKS80 and didnt find that much special to it compared to the American polys.

Might be interesting to have some Oberheim or Sequential Osc and filters?

The Yamaha CS15 filters are quite cool.

Some Arp Osc and filters...

I just sold my MKS80 Rev.4,- CEM3340 OSCs w/ Roland Jupiter 8 VCF (Roland custom chips)and CEM3360 VCAs in the cross modulation section.

MKS80 Rev.5 has the combined MKS70 VCF/VCA Roland custom chip

How much did you get for that rev 4?

Guy traveled 400km from Duesseldorf to pick it up and to get it for EUR 1.300.- without programmer, but original library cards and orig. manual included.
MPG80 programmer was sold separately before.
I'm 1st owner of all my vintage gear and the MKS80 was in good shape.

I buyed the Kurz PC361 incl. all pedals and ribbon then.

The MKS70 is similar condition, some tactile switches worn out a bit but still usable.
Roland tactile switches are easy and cheap to replace.

I wouldn't care 'cause there's a great Cubase mixer map (editor) for the MKS80 and MKS70 synths around, replicating the hardware programmers.
http://www.cykong.com/CubaseSX/SXpanels.htm

I also use Emagic Sounddiver 3.05 on a old Mac OS9 Powerbook G3 for hardware soundmanagement and editing.

MKS80 and MKS70 are good sounding synths, but I never found the MKS80 so much different compared to the 2 Prophet 5 I owned.
Also, MKS80 has no dynamic voice allocation and sounds best in dual mode which makes it a 4-voice polyphonic.
If you press a 5th key, there's no sound then.
The rev.4 also needs a long warm-up time until being in tune,- similar to the Prophet 5 rev. 1 and rev. 2.
It's great for basses, sync-leads, brass and strings, but MKS70 is the overall better pad machine.

I own Oberheim Xpander and Matrix-1000 as also a Minimoog and some more FM, Wavetable,- so I'm covered anyway,- and there's some great sounding software too.
