Are there still people using Tracktion?

I use T2. It does all I need it to do without complications. I mainly work with self-recorded audio plus some basic midi input. I don't need lots of fancy stuff, although sometimes I realise it would be nice to have the ability to extract more detailed and flexible information about tempo and rhythm from recorded audio to facilitate the addition of midi-programmed parts to recorded audio.
I will keep using it as long as it works. When it no longer works, I will get something else, but I hope I won't need to.

I'm still using Tracktion but unfortunately I'm finding that the best way to make it not crash is to not use it... Or to use kid gloves with it. Changing presets while it's playing seems to be a no-no. It's a great way to choose a sound, as long as the sound you're looking for is the sound of a computer rebooting.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I have NEVER had Tracktion crash on me. That's possibly it's most attractive feature for me - it just never fails. Computers frustrate me a lot, but Tracktion is extremely well-behaved here.

Still use it every day.
I wish for a 64bit version...... but there doesn't seem to be any hope left.
Me sad

Been using Tracktion since T1 and still record most every practice session with T3 12-16 tracks at a time through 2 crappy Behringer ADA8000s & ADAT out to two EZ8 PCI cards into a P4 & it never crashes ever. We have over 500GB of recordings going back to 2003. We track up stuff with it also from time to time, which is the reason for this post... figured this is the last thread anyone is reading here. LOL
Anyway.. I have an awesome feeling 8 track drum take, but the performance is a little slippy here and there. Is there any sort of groove matching plugin anyone knows of that's T3 compatible (VST whatever)?? I really don't want to spend a heap of time aligning beats by hand.
Thanks! Viva la Tracktion!

Is there still a way to buy a new copy of Tracktion? I recommended it to a friend today, and can't find a retailer that will sell it to him. I don't even see a buy link on Mackie's site. No listings on eBay either.

Yes, the easiest way to buy it is to buy a cheap Mackie interface - Tracktion license comes with it.bburtin wrote:Is there still a way to buy a new copy of Tracktion? Examples: Mackie Onyx Blackjack for $149 at sweetwater: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Blackjack/
Mackie ProFX8 for $229 comes with Tracktion

Other than that, the only place I have seen selling it is Sam Ash online. For more than either of these, but it's $249 for the Ultimate Bundle, whereas the DL for these mixer/usb interfaces is for the base program.

What a shame. I can understand if they want to stop development on it, but why stop collecting money? I guess the revenue stream must have dried up and they decided it was more trouble than it's worth to acquire new customers.rockstar_not wrote:Yes, the easiest way to buy it is to buy a cheap Mackie interface - Tracktion license comes with it.

What it boils down to is Mackie is a hardware company. They bought Tracktion as a "value added" product to bundle with mixers and interfaces. If anyone had paid attention to any of Mackie's other software offerings they could have seen the writing on the wall the second the Mackie name popped up on the splash screen. Toss in Mackie's financial problems and the result is that Tracktion has been dragged out behind the barn and had a bullet put in its head.
I still think Tracktion's interface hasn't been bested although some like Live get in the ballpark. However, I get the feeling that if Tracktion had been developed more and modern features tacked on then the interface would start to get cluttered. As it is, the limitation of the inline MIDI editing started to get on my nerves. There are times when I do want to blow it up to take up most of the screen for a lengthy programming session.

All kinds of speculation on this going back many years now. Mackie's parent company was going through tough financial times for awhile, and it seemed that Mackie was intent on cracking ProTools ubiquity by reverse engineering filespecs and so forth. I forget what Mackie called it, but they worked on making it such that you could use their interfaces with ProTools - this was a big splash 2 or 3 years ago.bburtin wrote:What a shame. Seems that has died off as well.
I just think that they probably took a look around and figured out that they simply were not a software company and didn't have the drive and/or resources to spend on developing the product.
It is a shame, lamented here for many years now. Still a very innovative product, in a market full of ProTools wannabe DAW software. I will probably use it until the wheels fall off my lappy. I was there 3 months ago, then was able to get things running o.k. on Win7 with a core i3 laptop. Running as administrator cleans up a lot of weird behavior running T3 with Win7.
I will run Tracktion on these conditions: 1. As long as I can get it to run on a Windows box, 2. Apple decides continue to avoid putting Logic back onto the PC platform,
If I join the dark side and go with an Apple lappy, or iPadx, then my Tracktion days are over - but that's o.k. as long as Apple doesn't screw with Logic or even Garageband too much. Keep the interface clean.

I got on Guitar Centers online discounts looking for the $20.00 deal on Tracktion they had for awhile...nope. They did, however, have this:

i went to Sonar (now X1c)...however, the vst suite Silent Way (uses voltages to control analog synths) causes X1q to crash (for me), but T3 runs the plugs fine (so far), so i'm back...
i recall there was some kind of looping midi sequencer/pattern generator vst created by a regular Tracktion user, anyone recall what it may be?
