The long DIVA thread

We're actually flying Howard into Berlin to fix some niggles with the sound. We want to tweak some filters with fresh ears before the release. No dramatic changes, but maybe a bit more colour here or there.
I think the Sallen-Key Rev2 is spot on, but the input gain is a rough 25% too high. On a real MS20 the resonance dies a tad later. Also, unlike other models, draft mode may have less resonance when it's usually more.

very nice synth indeed. Super impressed by the filters. The sound is still a bit brittle to my ears at higher freqs (at 44khz anyway) compared to analog, but I've never heard a softsynth that isn't.
One request - In the panel where you have separate tuning knob for each voice, would it be possible to have a separate pan knob for each voice as well? This would be great for wide unison sounds

below the tuning there's a voicemod, pan them and then modulate the pan with voicemoddharmawan wrote:very nice synth indeed. Super impressed by the filters. The sound is still a bit brittle to my ears at higher freqs (at 44khz anyway) compared to analog, but I've never heard a softsynth that isn't.

That's how i think it's done at least

That can be done using the lower row on the Trimmers page that is called "Voice Map Modulator". Assign "Voice Map" on the Main page -> "Amplifier & Pan" to PanMod: Voilà!dharmawan wrote:One request - In the panel where you have separate tuning knob for each voice, would it be possible to have a separate pan knob for each voice as well? Edit: Crackbaby, you were faster than me...

Good news. We had a scare last night because we thought something had been broken in the Transistor Ladder during the tweaks of recent weeks... so today we compared revisions, and no such thing happened. Only FM and Feedback changed (as expected)

The new ADS behaviour is probably what's throwing everyone off since it sounds like the filter being sustained/opened more. As it depends on the speed you play at they won't necessarily make the connection immediately. No way to compensate for it either, so some pre-460 presets simply cannot sound the same regardless of tweaks. Right now, along with the filter differences it causes, rapid notes kind of mush together with it.Urs wrote:Good news. I've just revised the ADS behaviour. It went up indefinately, but on the Minimoog I couldn't get past a certain level.
Thus next revision will have a much, much more predictable setting for this.

Just giving my question a quick bump in case it got lost in the thread.FastTriggerFish wrote:Here is an example - in isolation it came out as heavy shifts in frequency content rather than simple volume change, like a kind of slow flanging.FastTriggerFish wrote:Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem with DIVA which I noticed on a few of my patches: the volume can vary quite a lot though time, it's very noticeable when playing a repeated pattern.
Could this be due to some phase cancellation between oscillators which is slowly shifting with the detuning, and are any of you experiencing it too ?
I've never noticed it like that with other soft synths.
I haven't had time yet to debug it properly in case it's logic automation going mad or something like that ( wouldn't be the first time ) but the project looked clean.

Here is the patch as well:

I couldn't see anything in the patch that should cause this, but I hope I'm not doing anything stupid

This might be due to lack of phase reset...FastTriggerFish wrote:Just giving my question a quick bump in case it got lost in the thread.FastTriggerFish wrote:Here is an example - in isolation it came out as heavy shifts in frequency content rather than simple volume change, like a kind of slow flanging.FastTriggerFish wrote:Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem with DIVA which I noticed on a few of my patches: the volume can vary quite a lot though time, it's very noticeable when playing a repeated pattern.

Also, maybe add a tad of Decay in the VCA envelope... it's really short and might miss a phase wrap of the oscillators.

Hey Urs
Just curious, are the presets I submitted going to be in the next build? I didn't see them in the latest build. You interested in some more? I'll do it for free.

Sure, bring them on! They are great, you just need to tweak them a little for this version.Xenos wrote:Hey Urs

We've added only a few patches from Howard as a starter. The final version will have the full load, including yours

Cool! I'll get started now on new patches + adjusting the existing ones and send you the updated pack Sunday nightUrs wrote:Sure, bring them on! They are great, you just need to tweak them a little for this version.Xenos wrote:Hey Urs
