I dont know if this is a stupid request or Im complete misunderstanding something, but - with diva - is it possible to have a sine wave as a choice in any of the oscillators? Maybe Im missing something?
Im just asking with relation to basses and mixing - its hugely useful to be able to have a sub - bass oscillator which is a sine wave, to create big, but more easily mixable basses. It just allows you to take advantage more of Divas big complex tone and adsr, but the option of adding a sine underneath. I know you can add a square/pulse sub oscillator but a simple sine is something dearly missing and sort of important. The basses Diva would be able to make with a simple sine sub added would be pretty amazing. Its a pity its not an option on one of the triple oscillators...
I dunno if anybody knows what I mean. Or whether theres another way of doing things. Just seems that Diva is so rich, it will take up alot of room in a mix, and it would be really nice to control the low end more.
I know I could highpass Diva, add another synth with a sine wave, but getting the adsr exactly right or portamento and such between 2 softsynths, even with the same timing is actually quite difficult...
Anyways - just throwing it out there!

VCO2 of the Dual VCO, bottom waveform. Make sure that triangle shape is set to ideal or analog2.jumpercable wrote:is it possible to have a sine wave as a choice in any of the oscillators? Maybe Im missing something?

Most of the synths that Diva emulates don't have a Sine shape. I don't really miss a Sine shape in the Triple Osc, DCO and Eco modes, it's easy enough to use a filter to remove the overtones of a triangle wave.

On a different topic, I really do think - simple layout synths inspire you to sound design probably more dramatically then more complex ones... I might see this backwards but my experience is - on complex synths with complex routing systems, I feel you spend the most time trying to learn how to achieve simple sounds.. But on synths such as this - you get so comfortable and confident with the layout you want to "push" it that bit more and probably experiment in a way you initially wouldnt have with more options.
So if you have a genuine idea you want to try out that is more complex than the synth - youll probably try to achieve it more using your entire underused daw.
Its so great when you have a synth, and with simple ideas, like opening a filter, is just refreshing to listen to. Its like - "that actually sounds interesting again".

Actually wait - is it actually a sine wave? Seems to have overtones? I can cut it down with the filter - but thats the rub - you need the filter more open to create the actual timbre from the other vco... hmm... Not sure it allows my idea.hakey wrote:VCO2 of the Dual VCO, bottom waveform. The filters distort... a lot...jumpercable wrote:Actually wait - is it actually a sine wave? Seems to have overtones? If you want to boost the bass for bigger bassy sounds, try the highpass filter with .. is it -1?
Personally i love being restricted by the original synth's specs! I try to pretend im back in early 90's and that i have the most superawesome studio in the world
And with that said .. is anyone planning or thinking of a hardware controller? Or is there any current hardware controller where you can turn your monitor off and just look at the faders and knobs? Could Livid be a choice? I would mainly be interested in keeping it simple, only emulating what the original could and most likely not mix the modules. Maybe one controller for each one!
I got a bcr2000 and i think i can fit most of it so maybe i should settle with that. Though i need to make new sticky lables...
So much work!

With my first generation Remote SL, I don't have to look at the monitor. I have to switch pages a bit (there are a lot of parameters in Diva), but with the dual lcd screen I can see what all the parameters are without ever looking up.
Plus it doesn't take long to remember where everything is once you have been playing with it for a while.
Plus Diva sends meaningful values to the remote eg the waveforms in the Alpha Juno Osc actually display a combination of characters that match the waveform, LFOs send the name of the LFO waveform, Filter slopes show the value of 12db/24db and so on.
This facility means that all I pretty much do when I have Diva open and I am noodling is just make patch after patch. It's fascinating to go back through the sounds I have made in a session to hear how they have evolved. I have never done this with another soft synth (sad I know) but I am pretty sure it is Divas juicy goodness that is inspiring me as much as the excellent hardware support.

Default patch.. Keyfollow and res to max.. Osc volumes down. Ta-da! Sine wavesjumpercable wrote:Its a pity its not an option on one of the triple oscillators...

Ok, not quite what you were meaning, but it does do them. Works on a real Minimoog too

At the risk of sounding a complete idiot, which I am ok with if it gets me an answer
all the Osc range knobs are stuck on 8 in the Beta's I have downloaded and cant be moved in any way that I can fathom (I havent downloaded the very latest one mind you)and its like it in all Osc types.
I downloaded it on my macbook too, to see if it was something wrong with mac pro but its the same on there, is there some special way to move these (stupid question I know but im at a loss) or is it currently supposed to be like that?

Sounds like one of the issues from the early betas. Download the latest beta and it should workgjm123 wrote:At the risk of sounding a complete idiot, which I am ok with if it gets me an answerall the Osc range knobs are stuck on 8 in the Beta's I have downloaded and cant be moved in any way that I can fathom (I havent downloaded the very latest one mind you)and its like it in all Osc types.

the new Lemur app for iPAD is capable of sending 14 bit midi to achieve a higher resolution of control. Does anyone know if it possible to achieve 14 bit midi control of parameters in DIVA when using Ableton Live as a host?

Nope, we're still just evaluating 7 bits. 14 bit support (and multichannel and...) has a top spot in the priority list for general improvements that affect all u-he stuff.j0hnny wrote:the new Lemur app for iPAD is capable of sending 14 bit midi to achieve a higher resolution of control.
