Well, RME just brought out this:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb12/a ... ce-ucx.htm

and whilst an iPad doesnt have much memory, it does have up to 64Gb of storage space.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I must admit I'm not sure as I've never tried anything like Multitracking on my iPad. But if I wanted to do it I'd probably be looking at some of this stuff;

First and foremost, I don' t do multitrack recordings but only use internal synths, samplers, vocoders, drum machines and samples. I make loops and phrases and combine them in apps like Beatmaker 2, NanoStudio and Meteor.

With regard to memory, i have 32 GB on my iPad and don' t even use half the space. And if I run out of memory , I will just transfer to PC, just like I would use an external disk on my PC if I run out there.

Secondly, if I wanted connectivity, there are already such things as iO dock http://www.alesis.com/iodock

and there are a lot of others things coming, see this overview from namm. I am personally looking forward to the MPC Fly Controller:

http://www.idesignsound.com/news/namm-2 ... -round-up/

Here are more connectivity than I personally ever would need.

Now for multitrack recording there is a mini daw called multitrack daw (a universal io app) that records up to 12 tracks simultanously, but recently Auria has been announced and this supports multitrack recording as well as VSTs. Read this:

IMO, the development of iPad gear is going so fast that what you complain about is missing today, might already be here tomorrow.

Hopes this answer satisfies.

Cheers

Then I guess we start again with a new thread and the ipad2 owners get tortured by what they cant do...
That's kind of how it is with any computer technology, isn't it? Not a lot of people upgrade their laptop processors either, when they're soldered to the motherboards. What happened when people had Core 2 Duo processors, and the Core i7's came out? The C2D laptops continued (and continue to this day) to be useful.

I've currently got an iPad "1", and while it's not as fast technically as the 2, GarageBand, Multitrack DAW, AmpKit+, Animoog, Sampletank, Loopy HD, and NanoStudio all work just great. It's a bit of a fallacy to think that once a new product comes out the old one is immediately useless.

True. ipad 3 is rumoured to have OSX as an option. That will liven things up.

Nail. On. Head.

Consider "Analogue Synthesis: The end of the acoustic instrument era?"

Hardly. Pretty soon some creative folks realised it was far more fun to use these thingers as instruments in their own right, rather than *just* trying to emulate existing thingers.

That's what creative people do. Acoustic instruments didn't get superseded - the old and new tools happily co-exist because each have their own strong and weak points. Obviously there were probably a few tarnce kiddies who threw their tubas away and bought Hammond Novachords because it was the cool thing to do...

A tablet is not a laptop is not a tablet.

Finally, I wouldn't go throwing that notebook away just yet - you may need it when some future version of the iPad or it's OS breaks compatibility with all that shiny gear that you've bought for it. And no, I'm not trolling. This stuff isn't mature yet. Not even close.
"are we there yet?"

After doing a little more research, looks as if KVR isn't the place for HVK. On that note, I think it's time for a temporary lock while I split off the flaming and distraction. Unlock soon as I'm done.

[edit] There, think I got everything and didn't split off any posts that should've stayed; if I did, apologies.

They're all just tools with their own merits. I don't see the need to "replace" anything with anything. I have a tablet, a phone, and a notebook.

Oh my deary!! :D Is that really the HVK 'gladiator' dude who was just purged from KVR? That is priceless :) I can see why he values such high end stuff now. Must have invested some $$ in that video as well. OOOOeeeyyy!! Looks like that VR stuff from the early 90's but with the visuals done by druids rather than Future Sound of London!! Classic :hihi: I'm sending that to all my mates. It's the funniest thing I've seen since Granny fell in the swamp
