I must admit I'm not sure as I've never tried anything like Multitracking on my iPad. First and foremost, I don' t do multitrack recordings but only use internal synths, samplers, vocoders, drum machines and samples. That's kind of how it is with any computer technology, isn't it? Not a lot of people upgrade their laptop processors either, when they're soldered to the motherboards. What happened when people had Core 2 Duo processors, and the Core i7's came out? I've currently got an iPad "1", and while it's not as fast technically as the 2, GarageBand, Multitrack DAW, AmpKit+, Animoog, Sampletank, Loopy HD, and NanoStudio all work just great. It's a bit of a fallacy to think that once a new product comes out the old one is immediately useless.

Hardly. Pretty soon some creative folks realised it was far more fun to use these thingers as instruments in their own right, rather than *just* trying to emulate existing thingers.
That's what creative people do. Acoustic instruments didn't get superseded - the old and new tools happily co-exist because each have their own strong and weak points. Obviously there were probably a few tarnce kiddies who threw their tubas away and bought Hammond Novachords because it was the cool thing to do...
A tablet is not a laptop is not a tablet.
Finally, I wouldn't go throwing that notebook away just yet - you may need it when some future version of the iPad or it's OS breaks compatibility with all that shiny gear that you've bought for it. And no, I'm not trolling. This stuff isn't mature yet. Not even close.
