The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

around 2000 my daughter was young and I was looking for an amusement park I use to go to as a kid that is close by, I wondered if they were still in business and saw something similar to the first one you mention. My wife covered my daughter's eyes, I grabbed my keys and jacket and was out the door headed for the fun housejancivil wrote:

it's a standard dns hijack. most people don't understand how the dns system works. it's a distributed network like bit torrent. if someone starts seeding trash blocks it takes time for them to flow through the system. you might complete your whole file with no problem - actually gnutella is a better example as bit torrent has a lot better capability to block flooding attacks.darsho wrote:the link goes to the forum as always here. the original server is still sitting there and working just fine. the problem is that now your gps (dns!) is telling you to drive half way across the country and off a peer into a lake when you know you just want to go to the mcdonalds down the street.
one major problem is that so much stuff depends upon functioning dns. many systems do such as some forums, although phpbb can be configured fine without dns; email, sometimes basic site navigation depends upon it. (which shows the site is coded by an amature or totally insane lunatic that doesn't test before updating the live site...)
the real problem is when you find out godaddy has transferred your domain out of country, refuses to do anything about it and you realize you have absolutely no recourse.
anybody can do this. it's a basic fraud usually committed over telephone. you call up godaddy claiming to be a site owner who has lost a password. you provide information about the owner which is easily accessible online to prove you are authentic. godaddy transfers the domain or executes the changes you request.
literally anybody can do this to a smaller site - the limitation is going to be how much you have to lose and what kind of pain the site's owners could put you through. if you don't mind going to jail for a couple years and having a record, no problem.

Okay, I rarely go to the forum and usually it's just for browsing. However upon reading comments regarding "The Dan" It came to me that aside from some discussion regarding harmony. They know nothing of "The Dan"
