See this thread: New Xhip 0.7 RC1.

These "alpha" links no longer work.
just a heads up that i've got a new version of "xhip classic" if you want to call it that. i finally put in some effort to get it updated.

http://xhip.presetexchange.com/alpha/re ... 00_wip.exe

this version should be almost completely compatible.

please let me know if you find any problems!

question zero: does it work at all? :hihi:

it should approximate this: http://xhip.presetexchange.com/alpha/re ... ip_700.png

Great gui color and balance, a wide range of sound, even some
fx patches with a  sense of humour, and all in 378K?
8) 8) Thankyou!

Works fine in Reaper here (XP32). The only niggle so far is the Unison parameters don't show their value on the screen,it's says "invalid" only.

Awesome, thanks! Working fine here on a quick test run in Bidule and VstBoard.

yes, i should have said more about this being ALPHA - which means it isn't an official release yet. i'm just looking for some feedback and testing. you have to assume it WILL crash or do terrible things to your pc.

which of course i doubt it will, but, IT WILL. just keep that frame of mind!

:hihi:

i'm planning on doing a lot more to xhip. this version actually includes the full xhip effects suite in a modular format inside the dll. it currently uses the limiter on the output which i left in just because it helps to prevent clipping when i'm testing. i don't mind the idea of it staying in actually but i'll need to add some gain-reduction leds (clip leds) to show when it's active so you don't accidentally drive it.

the velocity and bender routing work as long as you don't route both to the same parameter. i'm wanting to add the "event routing" system i talked about a lot back in 2007. it's a mod matrix, but only for externally triggered events and inputs - so, midi ccs, automation and that kind of thing. no routing an lfo to cutoff or any of that.

i still need to incorporate the effects and this routing system into the synthesizer.

in addition to that, it still needs to save it's state in project files.

it also needs a few updates. since the last version of xhip i've developed oscillator code that works perfectly alias-free including sync even on triangle waves. i need to do more R&D work there but my aim is to provide much better oscillators with more waveforms eventually.

i've also developed slightly better filters. the ones in there now are the old ones with some improvements, but not all of them. i'm going to need to test A/B to make sure the new filters provide the same sound when configured the same way and do so without any extra cpu expense.

another basic improvement will be saving of pcm/wav into presets and banks and support for layering and splits as well as keyboard mapping of presets and samples.

some improvements will go into xhip as it passes versions 0700, 0800, 0900 and finally 1.0. other improvements will go into xhip 2.0 which will be a commercial product.

xhip 2.0 is going to be far more modular, sporting a full mod matrix and lots of insane features that will let you produce presets such as "chemical factory tank disaster and arrival of fire crews" and "bird chirps in the woods next to creaking tree with windy leaves and waterfall", not to mention "buddha-hop".

i have some more sounds for it, but as it never has supported a really full feature set nobody really had a chance to produce proper banks.

there were a couple banks produced but i've always intended to dig those up and "fix" them once xhip 1.0 is produced. i never expected it to take so much time, i just haven't really been motivated to do what is required to finish the synthesizer. it's finally building and building and getting to the point where i'm motivated again, so hopefully a lot will happen soon.

why is it an .exe ?

Post

unfortunately i've started using bitmaps. rather than store these in the dll, i write them as they're supposed to be written to /all users/application data/xhip/guilib/cache/

there is a knob strip, two slide switches (2 and 3 position) the LEDs and the background. you can "skin" it if you want to!

they're in tga format ARGB. only ARGB works, rle is supported and top left / bottom left (inversion) are supported. i like tga because they take a lot less time to decode than png files and the compression when zipped is very nearly as good.

i could provide a zip and instructions on how to copy the files, it's just much more trouble for most people than it's worth.

it's just a nsis installer that allows you to specify the target directory and meanwhile dumps the bitmaps where they need to be in the background. it'll allow me a lot more flexibility for when i want to put more in the package than people would need in some cases - for example it could contain a fancy installer, or grab extra data from an internet connection, or provide various installation options. let's all hope it never comes to that.

This takes up a very small CPU hit on this duo core laptop on Reaper 3.7 here...and the sounds! :) :) Tweak city!!

most scary part is i haven't really changed a thing to do with the core synth itself since about 2003. xhip is pretty much vintage at this point.

yeah, sure i've added stuff.

http://xhip.presetexchange.com/temp/xhip_beta_3.zip

this was the third release i made through kvr. the first few versions didn't have a gui, and when i made the release on kvr people really bugged me about that. beta 2 had rainbow colors and beta 3 was the toned down version :)

a few bugs and some minor variations of quality but otherwise it's not too far from exactly the same thing!

Sounds good, I don't use installers anymore, the gui elements don't work inside Sandboxie.
