Most CPU efficient host?

Qualifier: it has to host VSTs, and have what is generally considered full-functionality these days. I use Reaper which seems really efficient compared to my experiences with Live 5 (not sure how more modern versions fare) and Studio One v2.

Workflow-wise is another thing entirely, I'm just considering CPU use here Sorry if I missed some hosts that should be on the list.

seems to be begging for a host war, doesn't it?
and you did miss some contestants aswell...

Just basics like midi editing, audio recording, some sort of timestretch. Basically I don't want some VST wrapper with no audio being considered, everything that one would expect a 'real daw' to have these days, whatever that means. I am not asking for a host war, a really feature rich but demanding host has the right to chew on the CPU. I am just wondering what is most efficient that really covers all the basics.

I think I can edit the poll list to include more, I'll do that if I can. Samplitude comes to mind right now, so I'll see about that now.

EDIT: well I guess I can't add anything, so write ins are encouraged. And my vote for Reaper was based just on my limited experience so I hope everyone feels free to do the same. I really am not trying to start a war I promise, just wondering.

I was also wondering about just a wrapper to host DIVA to her fullest possible on my hardware without a lot of overhead, something I could load and just play without the host sucking up any juice. Anyone have any recommendations regarding that?

why mess around with a wrapper when you're just about to unveil the most efficient host in the world?

if what the host does on it's own without actually processing any audio through plugins even registers on any type of rule (task manager, whatever) you need to look at what is going wrong. sure, if you are passing 20 buffers around and having to do anything extra like down-mixing or rate conversion that's justifiable.

metering, perhaps - while the meters are visible of course.

otherwise though you should have a pretty difficult time registering 1% from the host.

while there can be differences in efficiency - do you have a specific problem you're trying to solve?

there are a lot of far more important features in what is basically a user interface / front end for plugins. the biggest component has got to be the sequencing and audio track management functionality. if those user interfaces are not comfortable it doesn't matter if the host uses quantum programming to find every possible output of your plugin before it's processed a sample - it would be a pain to use.

I use Minihost for that purpose. I guess it's my most used audio software since I do all my sound design with it and sound design is 98% of what I'm doing
It has a build in midi player, a wave player, a simple arp and seq etc.

Yeah, same. I don't really like Reaper, but the multi-core blows everything else out of the water in my experience. It seemed to me that I was getting close to those multiples of performance that I always hope for but seldom see with multi-core software.
