This conclusion cannot be drawn from my statement. Actually, you have to ask that to those people. However, as it seems judging from many statements here, for them Diva seems to work well.Urs wrote:But then you might also agree that someone who is looking for a Jupiter 8 might be a happy camper with Diva then.AKJ wrote:I am quite sure we can agree on this. I would never trade, for example, my Absynth for a Jupiter 8.Urs wrote:I think that's exactly then point. The synthesizers we modeled are not spectacular at all. When I first switched the Jupiter 8 on (which was a massive investment, most expensive synth we have), I was totally confused. It had nothing special at all. But then it also has one intriguing property: It never sucks.AKJ wrote:But when I see holy-grail-claims and when demoing I get the impression: well, it's good but not so spectacular...
This is a major part of it, as subtle as it is.
Does anyone NOT like Diva?

so tuning instabilities do have nothing to do with non-linearities?Bronto Scorpio wrote:These features have nothing to do with nonlinearities though.AKJ wrote:the picture of the performance section which shows the analog burst and analog drift knobs. As the manual explains:hakey wrote:Which picture? And how does it show that z3ta+ uses nonlinear modelling?AKJ wrote:z3ta+ also has some non-linear modeling, see the picture here
"Burst: Filtered DC-Burst level.
This will create a "pop" on Note-On, mostly used to recreate old analog drum machine
sounds, or to add some punch to a program."
"Drift: Random detuning level.
This feature is commonly used to emulate the tuning instabilities in early analog
synthesizers.
The random detune affects every oscillator individually."

doesn't inspire confidence that they have any idea what they're talking about.
do they mean dc feed-through?

I'll add my voice to the choir: I don't like Diva. I love it.

"they" have a lot to do with everything. sort of like how leprechauns have a lot to do with the process of making syrup.AKJ wrote:so tuning instabilities do have nothing to do with non-linearities?

I get all these lovely non-linear responses from Diva that I don't get from other VA's... little unexpected sounds and nuances that make playing the synth feel like an instrument.

This is not to advertise z3ta+, just to show that there are other examples (maybe with a different approach than Diva). I am sure there are more.
I looked at that page but I see nothing there about non-linear modeling. Did you link the wrong page?
But you are right, other synths do non-linear modeling as well. Synth Squad is one example. Diva is not unique in that regard. However, I think Diva just kinda hit the sweet spot in a variety of regards... non-linear modeling, filters, features where it is more than the sum of individual parts (especially since it is the sum of individual parts!
Here is one Diva example

And hey, great that you like what you like and no need to like Diva and I do and am gonna keep expressing my appreciation and posting my little sound examples and its all good

I think some would like it if things were just not even announced...to them anything would be hype.ariston wrote:I have never understood how something being "over-hyped" has anything to do with its quality. The mere fact that something is hyped (your hype is another man's enthusiasm, btw) doesn't signify anything about the subject in question.

I'm getting really tired of this analog v digital BS...
Unless you have a digital connection to your ears, the sound is always going to be "analog" anyway...
But what about that connection to your emotions through sensory perception ?
Most "analog" synths these days are all digital anyway with a keyboard controller and a few knobs added along with a ton of fairy dust sprinkled on by an overpaid marketing department..
Well - apart from the output jacks - unless you're running that digital cable straight to you ears
In keeping with the spirit of the OP before I sign off permanently from this thread...
The only thing I don't like about Diva,is she takes up sooooooo much of my time...
I sit down and tweak a few parameters, start playing a few things and time just drifts away...
That's a nice "zen" place for me,so that's where I'm heading..
I'll check back in when the Digital v Analog War of 2012 has ended and peace and a small degree of sanity has returned to the fore
