You can run Windows 8 without Metro and have it just like Windows 7.
I wouldn't jump at it though I would wait for the DAW developers to patch their DAWS for it.

I never tried Windows 8, but it looks to me that Windows 8 is more for touch screens.

Maybe you should wait until MS announces a grace period (you could freely upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 if you bought Vista during the grace period, don't know if they plan to do the same for Windows 8 ).

All this same shit was written when Win 7 came out. People saying stick with XP, people buying Win 7 laptops and reformatting with XP etc.
Music software will have touch screen functionality added to it which will add a new dimension - multi touch dragging mixer faders up and down for example.

how much does a 36" touch screen cost?

also, what about all those oily spots on the ipad, for example? that is complete bullshit. i don't know how people stand it.

win-8 is supposed to have some significant improvements. you should check into it's real features and see if it has anything you need.

one major fault in vista/7/8 (8?) for me has been that they completely disabled their grey-scale glyph rendering. so you can't have anti-aliased text unless it's clear-type. this is a huge annoyance, it's even worse than the shitty 16-level grey scale they had in xp.

why don't they fix the damn thing and get it to work right rather than pretending it isn't a problem.

I use Windows 7. Its much better than vista and I've not have any problems with it at all.
