I really can't believe that they didn't include delay compensation in the 6.5 release or this update. With the influx of 'delay inducing RE's' for the release, this was a real no-brainer to me.

Their chief technical developer stated in one of the (now locked) earlier threads that it will be incredibly difficult to get a working PDC in Reason.

Based on that bleak analysis of his, I suggest that we are going to be waiting 2-3 years at an absolute bare minimum. Unless the guy has a sudden epiphany of course!

We've been asking for MIDI out for several years, and that's still not in sight. They are only a very small development team (the whole company is only around 25 employees).

Perhaps Props should have let the user-base decided what Reason should be. Instead they seemed to be determined to do it their way. I think Reason would look quite different now and it might have been much more central to peoples set up.

the user-base just wanted: vst support, drag and drop and midi out. The rest ("wow", "fantastic" etc.) is fanboysm, like apple fans when talk about "revolution" for something absolutely normal (see the ipod when we used mp3 on RIOs years before, etc.) See how fanboys reacted when RE was announced...

Actually there's a ton of other things that Reason lacks, which some users want at least...

In my case, a high request would be for wider audio file format support. Not a very sexy request I know... but I like to use field recordings, sometimes including stuff from Freesound, etc. But Reason only support 16/24 bit Wav/aiff, so whenever I want to use an OGG, MP3 or 32bit wave file I have to use an external application to convert them first before they even show in Reason's browser. Given this is 2012 and there are many audio formats that are widely used, that's very lame.

Other big requests from users include PDC, built in ReCycle/slicing, better audio editing, MP3 export/web support, resizeable/scalable UI for the rack, group track folders, mixer groups, track markers on the mixer .... as somebody who frequents these threads a lot, you know these are regular requests ;)

As a DAW, Reason is painfully behind all the competition.

(1) wider audio file format: reason supports ONLY aiff, wav and rex, because, as far as I know (but, hey, i could mistake) recycle imports and exports only wav/aiff. So, since PH still sell recycle, they want you to buy it and focus on this copyrighted format (rx2). So, when they introduced "audio tracks" in reason, they actually introduced ONLY "aiff/wav/rex" tracks.
(2) built in recycle slicing: again, you have to buy Recycle. I don't see why they should give away such a function for free.
(3) reziseable/scalable UI: they explained they can't because of something linked to the code.

For the rest, i did not even know Reason has delay issues :o
This could explain their no-no-no about vst support?

WTF is PDC anyway?!

Plugin Delay Compensation?

Isn't that already built in to Reason?.. as it applies to it's built in instruments.. not actual plug-ins.

No it's not and no it doesn't apply to instruments it should be applied to effects because some of them introduce delay in signal path. Example look ahead limiter, vocoder, neptune, polar etc...it's actually explained in the manual ..

ahh ok, I got ya.

I stopped using Reason, at ver.4, years ago.. so I'm really out of the loop.

... and that could explain their "no, no, no, never" regarding vst support? And the fact reason is not even rewire master...

Well there's not even any compensation for a bunch of their own devices that sorely need it ... !!

In the VST world it can apply to instruments too, it's just not widely supported. When PDC is introduced, it would be good to have it for any plug in. Then we could add e.g. a lookahead compressor to a synth, etc. :)

If you want a userbase requested cluster-f**k, buy FL Studio. If you want a streamlined self-contained soft studio, stick to Reason. You guys keep nagging about Reason not being something it was never meant to be. It is like reading someone complaining that apples don' t taste like bananas.

There are plenty of DAWs to choose from on the market covering all kind of needs. Just choose with care from what already is and not what you hope a årogram to be in the future. Simple as that.

well, for some people (myself included) userbase rules: if propellerheads are that rich now it is thanks to the userbase who bought their products. That is why they should at least explain some grave gaps (no midi out, no vst support, no delay compensation, no drag and drop, etc.). Why? Because Reason is not a free product, on the contrary it is quite expensive for what it offers.
