Touchscreen with a Muse Research Receptor?

In my experience with Elo Touchscreens back in the day, the driver was essentially a mouse driver. There was no multitouch and the driver just made the mouse pointer move where you touched. The only thing the driver was needed for, really, was calibration of the overlay. As others noted, there are touchscreen drivers in Linux. Muse doesn't seem to need to do much there to activate it on Receptor. Actually, I'm curious about that open source issue mentioned above in this thread, as old as that topic is.

Argh.... touch screens, although good conceptually, are rife with issues in terms of mouse control. Some work, some don't and many require special drivers which is obviously something you want to avoid. If you do really want to go the touchscreen route, be sure that it is USB MOUSE DEVICE COMPLIANT, and does not require special drivers to be installed to work. Now if you mean "touch screen computer" then obviously, that's a different case and those work very well with Receptor.
That being said, if the problem you are trying to fix is runaway system log files, you might want to look in to having the drive reclined...
As far as general remote visual control of RECEPTOR, a lot of people are using iPad and Samsung Android Tablets. They work very well once you find a VNC viewer that has the mouse behavior you are looking for. That being said, we haven't looked in to logging on to the hard drive with these devices, so we'll do some research in to this and see what we can find...
Let us know if you find a cheap touch screen monitor that is USB pointer-device compatible and works well with the RECEPTOR!

You might want to look in to using a Tablet computer to do this. We've been fooling around with a new Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android OS, and not only can you remote control the RECEPTOR by simply connecting the RECEPTOR to a WiFi router and then downloading a VNC viewer into the Tablet, but Gary also found a program called ES File Explorer that will let you log on to the RECEPTOR hard drive using Samba.dizzidecazz wrote:Hi, Sorry to re-hash an old thread but this is something I'm looking into. There are heaps of very low cost touchscreen monitors available now aimed at the in-car and Point-Of-Sale markets. I'm going to get one hoping that it's compatible.
My plan is to mount it flat in a 1ru rack drawer with a small qwerty keyboard so that I always have control over my Receptor 1(rev C). The main reason I need this is because I suffer from dreaded runaway system log files and need to have a monitor and keyboard attached directly to fix this when it happens. It usually confines itself to right before a big show. In this case, a touchscreen is mute, as I only need the keyboard and monitor but I'm hoping for general usage I can use the touchscreen too. I'm hoping that because these things are aimed at in-car systems, specific drivers aren't applicable, so therefore support 'True Pointer Technology'. Cheap screens on ebay coming from China are low on info but for the money, it's worth the risk (I can always stick a mouse in the drawer too).
Having said that, all up, this will cost me around $200AU for the lot. I'll keep you posted on the idea.
Of course using a Windows PC touchscreen computer will work great, the Tablets are convenient because they are so small... that being said, be sure to explore different VNC viewers as the mouse behavior of these different viewers varies wildly...
Cheers

What is having the drive "reclined"? It sounds relaxing but I'm assuming it's not.Bryan@MuseResearch wrote: That being said, if the problem you are trying to fix is runaway system log files, you might want to look in to having the drive reclined...

As I need the screen before any start-up, VNC and tablets won't work for me. I figure I'll get my hands on one of these cheap touch screens, and even if the 'touch' part doesn't work, the screen will and I can always chuck a mouse in the kit. Call me old fashioned but I like the idea of thing plugged straight into the Receptor and left that way so they're always usable.

Sorry about that. Good to see that someone has a sense of humor. Meant to say "recloned" but the auto-spelling checker of KVR apparently is more laid back than that.dizzidecazz wrote:What is having the drive "reclined"? One thing that works well is to use a regular old LCD, and they are getting very cheap these days, and then connecting a wireless trackpad keyboard like I said... that is almost as good, and arguably more versatile...
