At last we have some release noises in. There are essentially three types. First, you have fret squeaks. These are placed MANUALLY using a note right below the single-note keys. The script can't know before you play a note whether you are changing frets or not, so you're encouraged to use this to add a tiny bit of extra realism where appropriate.

Next, there are unpitched noises - realistic sounds of the pick/fingers moving along the strings, miscellaneous fx, the sort of stuff that was in Shreddage 1+X. Very useful, and triggered automatically. You can control the volume of these right from the UI.

Finally, there are pitched noises. Rather than a mute or sustain sample just fading out when you let go of the key, you get an actual pitched release trigger of the string being muted/released (as appropriate). This is also controllable via UI.

I am very interested in knowing more about the chord detection feature listed on the first post.

Any more info on this function? What kinds of chords will be recognized?
Will there also be intuitive ways to strum?

Thanks

Hi Zircon, how exactly do the pitched noises work?
For the noises,eg the fret squeaks,do we have more variations or a single sample to trigger it?
Last thing! since I still haven't bought Shreddage bass I would like to know if you are planning to offer a bundle with Shreddage 2 and Shreddage bass.

Post

Daaaaamn I just bought V-Metal because Shreddage-X (as great as it is) drives me into some pretty unnice limitations.
Should have waited for Shreddage 2. Would have bought it anyway but I wasn't aware it is right around the corner.
Oh well...you can never have enough guitars I think lol

Now if I could only have a quality mandolin library...

Post

Prominy did a great work with V Metal, but the library isn't so intuitive and still,it lacks in palm mute,in my opinion, which is better in Shreddage libraries.
It surely has so many interesting things to work with (remember it's 19 gb and 26000 samples library!!) but nothing sounds dark and extreme like Shreddage,at least currently.

Post

Ya just played around with V-Metal and it sounds great. Using a second MIDI controller for keyswitches only makes things a lot easier.
Still I am more into the Shreddage workflow.
Having both is a cool thing as it gives me a lot of variety to play with.
Good my PC has TONS or RAM.
Shreddage X + V-Metal + Evolution Electric Guitar + Trillian + Superior Drummer = freakin' RAM madness lol

Other question: Will Shreddage 2 be backwards compatible with Shreddage X projects?

Post

Some comments / answers:

1. For fret squeaks, there are 15 RR variations to work with. There are also about 15x RR unpitched release noises.

2. There may be a bundle with Shreddage 2 + Bass. I can't promise anything yet - we are actually hoping to work with Native Instruments and get this bundled with Kontakt Player!

3. Shreddage 2 is a totally different and independent library from the original in terms of samples. However it has basically the same kind of mapping (you might need to transpose up or down a bit) so it's generally compatible with old sequences.

Anyone?

Oops, missed that post. As of now, we don't have pre-recorded chords. This script function serves to normalize stroke direction and fret appropriately when multiple pitches are played rapidly.

Thanks for the reply!

Will this system be able to translate chords that I play on the keyboard into guitar voicing that a real guitar player would use?

Does that mean its gonna be a locked library?
I sure hope not.
Having access to the samples was always a big selling point for your libraries to me.

The intent is to make it as open and editable as all our previous libraries. Since we haven't done a Kontakt Player library before, I'm not sure exactly what options they provide to us developers. If, for example, we can only distribute the library with the Kontakt Player using locked files, my thought would be to provide the original WAVs and standard Kontakt patches as an optional download.

Yes. There is a fairly complex script (that I'm continuing to develop and refine) that intelligently voices each note that you play.

let's see what will happen!

but on Kontakt manual,I read this:

Some libraries are locked for editing, even if you own the full version of KONTAKT. The decision to lock a library is that of library developer and not that of Native Instruments.

so,isn't it your choice??

anyway,I hope we will soon get our hand on Shreddage 2,I'm really impatient,it had never been done before.

Releasing for Kontakt Player means packing samples in NKX monoliths. So if zircon plans to provide the samples openly, it would have to be an optional download.

Post

ahh,so kontakt player files aren't NKI??
I never used Kontakt Player :?
