Urs wrote:Well, as it turned out, we only had 30 days to download the PACE signing tools. Because of the iLokalypse (great word!) we missed that deadline - we weren't told that there was any deadline. So we've paid for everything, but we can't do anything until they sort it out for us.

So we've basically decided to continue without immediate AAX support.
Biggest problem is when we have a failed iLok. I had to send mine to PACE, and I'm still waitingo fro tehm. Meanwhile, no licenses, because I refused to pay the extra insurance for the "zero whatever" (i simply cannot understand why they want money to simply deposit new temporary licenses in my account). And, if I want a new key, I have to pay for shipment, which they charge more than the price of a new key (and all this when I am still under the two year warranty).

Personally when it's done it's done i guess and then Zebra 3...

I am more excited about http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2012/03/ ... from-u-he/

With the advent of Microsoft tablets dropping in price this could be a great reality in the near to distant future I guess...

Very excited for a hardware vst host with touch screen, tactile controls etc :)

Some of this information worries me greatly. I go to great lengths to not have any PACE-infested software on my system. And I don't need AAX as I don't use ProTools. But does any of this mean that, if I download Diva 1.3, PACE software will be unavoidably being put onto my computer in spite of these facts? Please, please, don't say "yes", because that would be the end of my updates to u-he software. :(

No, even if you use protools.

From what I understand, the AAX plugin is wrapped in Pace's security code. Urs can correct me if I'm wrong.
Remember the iLokalypse Summer 2013

Samples and presets and free stuff!

Personally I don't use any plug-ins that use iLok or any dongles any more, it seems like such an archaic system to protect software.

What I appreciate about U-HE is that it requires no dongles.
Right now I am strictly hardware plus U-HE Diva and some D-16 products in harmony with Logic.
Everything works.

I have a jar of dongles and iLoks from the past, I keep them to remind me of how much I hated that system!

Now........I have a fever and their is only one cure for that fever........DIVA 1.3. ....
.......with cowbell if that is one of the pre-sets. (SNL reference)

Dongles are boring for licensed user, and unnoticed for cracked software :hihi:

Arghh this waiting is killing me. I have too much time so I come back checking every 5 minutes if maybe they have released Satin and Diva update already. If that's not enough I'm also watching the NAMM13 demos.

I know you guys are pushing very hard. But really don't mind about me. I'm just a lunatic finn in the middle of deciding what I want to do in future. Maybe I start making ice cream professionally?

No. There's no reason any PACE-related code would even get looked at when building non-AAX plugs. Further one can consider signing as completely independent of licensing. It's a different sort of check, it verifies that the software files are unadulterated - no malware, no modifications that a crack might make. Licensing is about verifying the right software consumer - Jim Piano, not Johnny the Pirate. Signing is about verifying the right software producer - Joe Developer, not Johnny Crackbomb.

Where AAX is right now, PACE licensing is not required; PACE signing is. I'm not sure how much or in what ways PACE is confusing the two (intentionally, or unintentionally ...) - one could certainly speculate a lot here, from a lot of perspectives; it's a difficult, sensitive question for all parties. Personally I also don't want PACE anything - every time PACE fails the smell test it just makes that discussion even more complicated. :(

I don't want PACE anything either. I worked at a company making audio software about six years ago, and had to install PACE on my development Macbook at the time ... and had no end of problems as a result, enough to make that laptop nearly useless in fact, to the point that I switched to doing my development work on my own personal, uninfected system. I will never allow anything from that evil company onto my own personal computers. Indeed, if every music software started requiring PACE, then I'd give up making music ... that's how strongly I feel about this.

But if I am understanding you, then the AAX involvement with PACE is simply to have a digital signature that any PACE software already on the client system can understand, is that correct? So there's no sort of "PACE runtime" that will need to get shipped along with Diva 1.3, unlike six years ago when installing a plugin with PACE licensing meant allowing their software to burrow deeply into the operating system as well? Even in that event, since the current installers do give us the option of selecting which versions of the plugin we want, I hope that we'll have the option of deselecting the AAX plugin, and that doing so will prevent anything created or touched in any way by PACE from being installed, because I really don't trust PACE not to try to infect more computers with their virus ... um, "software", in any way possible.

Yeah, the certificate is just some cryptological, inert chunk of data in the AAX plug. One would have to contract PACE through some other form of contact :hihi:

There really ought to be some sort of protection for that.

Anyway, that's reassuring. I've made a number of hard decisions on skipping purchases in recent years in order to keep my computers "clean", so I'm disinclined to risk a slip-up now. And I really want Diva 1.3. 8)

Yeah, no worries, we won't have any PACE code in our plugs. There'll just be that signature file somewhere inside the AAX package.

They've re-issued our 30 day download license, so at least that part is sorted now.

Actually, they only said they did. When I sign in, I still only have the expired one. I guess remnants of the iLokalypse are still around.

Sigh. I have a really weird feeling in my guts.

Reading this I understand that I should say thanks for using non-intrusive copy protection in your products, Urs.

So, yeah... Thank you very much.
Peace and tolerance
