Yeah, that was as close as I could get in the time I had. I think I'm 90% there but it's always the elusive 10%, which in this example would be the super punchy attack, which had me totally stumped to be honest :hihi:

I can tell you for definite that the pitch sweep is upwards, and the square component doesn't seem to have any form of EQ or other distortions because it's a plain square, so I think the punch comes from the envelope shape and the way the square interacts with the noise component. I'm also fairly sure there isn't anything mixed in with the attack. It's just a square, and noise, and the modulations, at least, from studying the waveform and spectrogram.

If anyone manages to pull it off I'd love to hear about it, because I might learn something 8)

Yeah, I'll post it tomorrow, provided if anyone finds a way to improve it they share it here. I think there's an important lesson lurking somewhere.

Unless you have Tone2 Bifilter you'll not get the diffusion effect I used, but that was only applied subtly. If you DO have Bifilter, I'll include the settings, filter type and wet/dry mix.

Actually, doing this has given me an idea. Why don't we have a sort of non-competetive competition where everyone tries to duplicate a certain sound in a certain synth (Zebra probably as it's the most flexible) and everyone pools their knowledge until we either get the sound 99% accurate or we all get bored? Could be quite fun.

I'll play around with this later tonight (I hope). I was messing around with this the other and got pretty close before messing around on other things.

I didn't look at the wave form and was using the defualt wave position on the init patch. I used the MSEG to modulate pitch with a quick (but not too quick) curved attack (pitched up) and then a slow to fast curve on the decay.

Env 1 was set to fast attack, quick decay, no sustain.

The noise module and OSC1 were fed into XMF filters, overloaded, with click enabled and set in parallel (but maybe it was in serial... can't remember now).

Unfortunately the best result I had was enabling dual mode on OSC1, but every other note would sound great. If I had more time it would be worth setting up OSC1 and OSC2 the same and then fed through the single filter.

Again, I'll try to play around again tonight with it and upload the patch if I can.

MY Version, but I think its not really close enough to the Original Although on the track I did put a limiter because otherwise it will keep clipping. Be sure to use a Limiter with these settings. I used Pro-L from Fabfilter

Ok, I'm trying to locate the Zebra preset so I can send it, but apparently the only presets I can find are basically anything I created before I started looking for presets.

If I save a preset "ZANZIBAR" then run a search for ZANZIBAR I get nothing. I can find all my other presets, apart from the ones I made before I made that one preset. In the Zebra GUI, nothing is missing, but according to Windows, these new presets (The pock sound, and ZANZIBAR which is my search aid file) don't even exist.

See, when I was on XP I never had any problems like this. Search would find literally anything, no excuses.

Ok, found it, there were multiple Zebra folder trees. Probably my fault. But even so, HTF did search not find Noisy Squarepock and ZANZIBAR? There they were, in this duplicated folder, but search is completely blind to it.

I see what you are trying to do there. mseg1 to osc1's tune for the pitch and mseg2 to the volume of noise1 to give it a slow attack (tail)

But I also see that OSC1 of your preset is not a square but a Saw wave. It is supposed to be a square. Did you forget??

It's a saw with phase doubling turned on and phase set to 180 degrees, so it outputs a sqaure.

Another crafty little trick I used was to modulate one of the Osc FX to make the waveform more raspy at the attack portion. I was grasping at straws at this point because clearly the original waveform is a simple square without FX or distortion, but I found it helped a little bit, so I kept it in.

Glad the copy/paste job worked. I'd never tried that before.

Here are the wave and spectrogram images I've been using to investigate this:

Undamaged squarewave mixed with noise, pitch appears to destabilize further on into the sound (by looking at the spacing of the vertical discontinuities), noise component dominates the tail.

It works, but between scrolling through that on a mobile and the relatively porny links on ssienn's file-sharing site my hands are tired.

Looking forward to seeing how drag'n'drop works with Diva's arp, could be interesting along these lines. I've been happy with box.net, pretty uncomplicated. Like, https://app.box.com/s/ci6fg7yq0anoueqmuhsa (I ended up aiming for the square wave-y part of the sound but ignored the more percussive, white noise part, trying to get that confused the patch. I didn't really exhaust every conceivable way to cram the noise in though.)
