The current CM Plugins package was recently changed to be cross-platform plugins only, before that the name was CM Studio and contained many plugins unique to PC which might be interesting for some so might want to get a back issue for that: (synths like Genesis, FabFilter One, Junglist, Dominator etc)

CM184 (November 2012) is the last issue of CM with the old CM Studio, including PC- and Mac-only plugins.
As seen from the Computer Music Vault - Downloads FAQ, Computer Music 182 is the earliest magazine to have downloadable content and I now see the Genesis synth was already dropped before that just fyi. But just to make 100% clear, if you have that synth or any other synth from an old magazine, you are of course allowed to use it, even if it's not available now. Any (one) CM synth can be used.

From the rules:

Prizes are given to the top 5 placings, winner gets first choice and so on down. If the field is less than 20 entries, only 4 prizes will be available. If less than 15, 3 etc.

Since there are so many prizes this month, and presumably a lot of submissions, would it make sense to broaden this a little bit? :)

I am hoping I can participate this month after a 9-month hiatus due to being very busy.

I would look at it more along the lines of getting a prize you really want this time. So if you're in top 5 you have a great range to pick from.

If I buy an issue of CM from the iPad app (it's showing issue 196 for $5) do I get just the one plugin that comes with that issue or do I get all the past plugins?

You'll get a fairly decent 370MB download, comes with 5+ synths (dune, zebra, synthmaster, Rhindo, polykb, etc) and some nice plugins.

Hi!

From the rules: "DAW effects are allowed, as are 3rd party effects if they are freeware and easily available."

Some time ago I made a vst effect which is hardly like 30 lines of code, and it probably already existed but I could not find it. I don't even know anything about dsp or math, it's basically just an experiment.

It's buggy, recall doesn't even work and I'm not sure if I want to use it, but if I used it, I'd have to release it? Would uploadint it on dropbox/putting it in my signature work?

Not that big of a deal, but asking anyway...

Cheers for the instruction man! Especially after night shift and few beers ;]

Anyone having trouble getting the mags, let me know in a PM, there are a few options.

No problem here, luckily... and boy these are some good plugins in this CM pack - it really seems like a complete enough set of plugs to make tracks with exclusively.

But, here at the One Synth Challenge, we laugh at people that use more than one plugin for sounds in a track. Entirely unnecessary! :)

It's so hard to choose which synth to use, though. At first I thought ZebraCM was going to be a no-brainer but not so sure anymore after auditioning them all. :help:

As long as anybody can easily find and download the plugin it's fine. A post here in KVR with the download link is probably enough as it normally doesn't take long before the search engines have it indexed.

It also has to be within the other effects rules too of course but you know this anyway I suppose.

Thanks to a tip by Animehaus, it appears the above info is not entirely correct as there are older CM specials like 'The Ultimate Guide to Mixing' at Zinio which will give you access to downloadable content at CM vault with older versions of CM Studio where all the older synths like Genesis are.

Thanks to a heads up from V'ger (via Animehaus) when you go to the vault, select "Issue 20" (which is of course The Ultimate Guide to Mixing)... I know it sounds weird, but I got it working, it's a 300+mb download, and has Genesis CM, Fabfilter One CM, and a few other gems on there :D
