The long DIVA thread

Found a couple bugs:
In draft mode:
-uhbie filter highpass/lowpass mode seems to be reversed.
-The cascade filter now makes some crazy digital noise when resonance is turned up past 1/2.
Also the CTRL 2 modulation knob and switch on the digital OSC modify the shape mod knob and OSC1 switch on the Triple VCO respectively. Guessing this isn't the intended behavior?

thanks for the update u-he!
quick opinion based on playing around with it while watching football.
the digital oscillator: i thought this would be just the cheese supersaw factor instead i'm liking A LOT. all the oscillator types variantions through the ctrl1/ctrl2 are interesting . some crazy and useful stuff come out from these alone and increase the sound palette od diva considerably . btw i know why a big volume knob was added right at the top...watch out for the volume when playing around with this!! i reccomend to put a limiter on it before even starting.
the uhbie filter : urs wasn't kidding when he said the obie filter sounded similar to the 12db in the roland multifilter....but it keeps more of a solid compact bassy body when high in resonance and seeems to be a little smoother and creamier (less frequencies passing through or in more subtle way). awesome graphics..so i might switch to this when i need a 12db filter .
the arp: just a simple arp for previewing /making sounds with arpeggios in mind....but I doubt i'll be using this one much in making music (there are many good free arps out there). I bet the original arp idea that got scrapped would have been more exciting and inspiring musically...but this one is still nice to have for a quick and easy accesss/preview option.
all in all a great free update. so many thanks to the u-he team!
ps: if there is any chance for such an addition then it would make this update even sweeter
(honestly I swear would be my last FR)

Honestly the uhbie sounds much different than any of Diva's other 12db/octave filters to my ears. It complements unison patches nicely and somewhat reminds me of the nord filter.
Since Diva is treading into hardware VA territory is it realistic at this point to allow for more than 16 voices? This way I could say, stack 5 digital oscs set at saw + pwm, and spread them over the stereo field. It makes a massive pad sound that sounds great on my Virus and honestly better on Diva. The only problem is I only get 3 voices after stacking 5, meaning overlapping decays will cutoff and I can't play bass octaves. 3 voices with 5 stacked digital oscs on great quality with uhbie is about 40% of my i860 CPU, so I'll bet my CPU could handle 1-2 more. I think most people actually using Diva for unison patches probably freeze the synth, myself included, so as much as 75% CPU is pretty realistic before I'd start getting dropouts and quite usable as long as you don't mind freezing the synth.

OMG after selling my JP8080 2 years ago I am so glad to have it back! The Digital OSC is spot on and amazing. So simple but such a wide palette of results. This is why I love DIVA. Thanks guys!

Wow, with the new digital JP8080 style Osc's and the combination of the Ubie filter ....Diva can take on a whole new sound.
I found myself creating those great Celestial new age pads of the past with ease and with great sound quality.
The new Arp is great too, although still hoping for the sequencer in the future!
but all and all the new oscillators and filter are great additions to the Diva.

Build 1959, Windows, VST 3
Digital osc - left side to noise, cutoff around mid, resonance high-ish
mix to right osc only, choose supersaw, whatever parameters
behaves like the noise cutoff from 1 is filtering the supersaw in osc 2.
Test by holding down a note, and switch the osc type of osc 1 while listening to osc 2 only.
Edit: Also with the OSC2 noise selected, using OSC1 noise (mix to 2 only) reveals a much darker OSC2 noise...
Bug? Or?
\
And: is the square wave (set to a pulse) supposed to have extreme aliasing or noise in high pitches?
Love the new oscs and -- that arp! So cool.
Cheers, adrian

I'd like to congratulate you guys for your hard work. I also really hope that your efforts will be paid off well.
I just can't wait to finish work and spend some time by dwelving into Feedback OSC. I never suspected Diva will ever sound digital.

I have tried to wait patiently, and it is finally here! Mac 10.6.8, Cubase LE4, Diva 1.3.0b2, no bugs to report. But one serious problem: how am I supposed to get any sleep and still play with Diva (even with demo scratchy noises)?
For my birthday (March 20th), my wife decided I needed a new underwater camera that wouldn't cease functioning after going more than nine feet underwater more than Diva. Is it Christmas time yet?

Thanks everyone! We'll wade through that first batch of bugs shortly.
Please, with every bug report we also need to know if it happens in Draft, Fast, Great/Divine or all of those.
Here's more news: We're going to add a "less aliasing" button, which internally replaces some of the "naive" algorithms with one using Zebra's rendering method or other means to bandlimit the waves. This will work wonders on some waveforms, but it won't help with the feedback oscillator.

Possibly, yes. We sneaked that thing in that CTRL2 does, which isn't found in the original JP algorithms. It's a bit of a stunt due to the aliasing, but it's also too cool to not to do. Does switching to Great or Divine make a difference?Adrian B wrote:is the square wave (set to a pulse) supposed to have extreme aliasing or noise in high pitches?

Not sure, was it reported or not, but diva install is trying to use folder of satin:

It was a feature request that our installers default to whatever location one has chosen on the previous installer. Typically we would simply expect this to be a Vstplugins folder, or a folder for u-he plug-ins.david.beholder wrote:Not sure, was it reported or not, but diva install is trying to use folder of satin:
Just browse to your existing Diva install and it'll find its resources (I hope).
