Thanks for the help guys,
Now X, go practice, make patches you lazy schmuck!
I've had only little sleep last night, today fixing some bugs zombie style. You're in good hands herexalama qo wrote:Still no Urs, that's a pity. Anyway, I'm sure he'll add his bit if he feels like it.
What's that you say? Didn't quite get it, could you repeat please?andrelafosse wrote:The circuit bending knobs.
I say again: the circuit bending knobs.
Any hint of politeness and decorum shall be banished with extreme prejudice upon the use of these things that do open doors into a voluminous catacomb of sonic unruliness.
(Did I mention that I love the circuit bending knobs?)
Oh man, I had a feeling this thread was gonna be more Pandora's Box than Can of Worms.Sendy wrote:Try softsync as well - people seem to pretend it doesn't exist because it can be quite unpredictable, but it's the key to lots of really unique sounds and faux-distortions, glitchy madness, engine sounds, inharmonic and longform oscillator shapes.
Thanks for that Tom, I remember the Sys 100 reference being mentioned, but assumed that was more of an architectural influence than a sonic-character one. Great that you've spent time on both the 100 and ACE, so your comparison is insightful.TomTwohy wrote:Urs tells us that ACE was inspired by a Roland system 100 modular. I think it t was his first modular synthesizer he spend much time with, located (I think) at school.
Having worked with the system 100 on myself in junior collage (1980) think it sounds quite a lot like one… though as they say "pimped" a great deal.
And LISTEN TO HOWARD! He's done this once or twice.
I'll have to download the Sys 100 manual. Thanks for the heads-up that it's good and a humorous read. I'll grab it even if it's just for larfs, and I might try copying some patches to ACE, just as long as they're not oboes and the usual synthetic-acoustic stuff.Sendy wrote:Definitely has a rolandish character. That's about as specific as is really needed.
The System 100 has a brilliant manual. I like that they tell you to play a few notes on a certain patch, then will print a score with some suggested notes or melody. It's clearly written with musicians in mind.
I'm sure every patch from the 100 could be made in ACE.
I love the part about the S+H module, and using it to modulate pitch. They say something like "some of the notes created by this modulation may lie outside of the traditional Western scale, but can be used to add colour to traditional Western music". That wouldn't fly today(ermahguard, it's out of tune, get the autotune!)
Oh yeah? OH YEAH??!!Unfocused wrote:Zebra is cool but...(snip)...I have other synths that cover that ground.
