+1 for Martin's PG8X.
I really like these home made stuffs made by ONE passionate without any commercial goal, even if they hope sometimes a donation. I really like these home made stuffs when they show the proof that it is possible, with very little means and resources, to create products (in music as in all other domains) which can compete (and sometimes do even better) with the full commercial products.
And in my opinion it is fully the case concerning guys like Martin Lüders or Adam Szabo and some others great passionates who reach a level of quality that we can only admire.

ditto on the love for PG8X it just needs FX added in the DAW but whooah when you add it the beast of a synth that PG8X is becomes apparent. You don't add FX you are basically costing yourself the ability to properly evaluate how bad ass this thing sounds. I am going to play around with this over the weekend to write some backing type stuff.

True... As for exemple the original recording was a sh101...crimsonwarlock wrote:From the man himself; it doesn't really matter what synth to use for that kind of sound.Ingonator wrote:I found that Jan Hammer for his Guitar sound in Crockett's theme seemed to use a MemoryMoog trough a distortion pedal and guitar amp.
Pg8x has got the same shitty envelopes as the original, and that is were "faithful" emulation can get on my nerves... Hard to get a good bass with it. But it has the same strong qualities as the original too... I loooove those strings patches.
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

Yes, as with the JX8P, you definitely want to run it through some delay or reverb. Otherwise, it just sounds dead and boring.yessongs wrote:ditto on the love for PG8X it just needs FX added in the DAW but whooah when you add it the beast of a synth that PG8X is becomes apparent. Judging from the audio examples some of their stuff sounds pretty good.DrGonzo wrote:Although UVIs sample based synths indeed doesn't emulate all aspects as a real softsynt does - but I must say I'm a bit of a fan of their stuff. Generally the presets are great and give you the sound (well - close enough) you want pretty much straight away. On top of that - I personally think Mach5 is one hell of a underrated sampler. Much much much better than Kontakt.Ingonator wrote:The only advantage of the UVI synth is that it is also available for MacOS.
But not an exact emulation - no.
/C
How do they sample the original? When Ingo says those synths don't emulate filters, does that mean the sounds are sampled pre-filter, i.e. only the osc output? Otherwise there would be no need to emulate filters as the filter characteristics would already be included in the samples.

why are you trying to get bass out of it? would you use a hammer to try to cut a piece of wood in half?Chopper wrote:True... no, you use the right tool. and in music you use the right tools for the sound you are after.
PG8X is great for leads and pads.

These are absolutely great! Are these your creations? I like that they both are 100% synthesis and no samples involved (like you see with a lot of so called 'emulations')
Very generous to give them away for free.. thank you

As I owned the hardware decades ago, I recorded (there were no PC´s) directly onto tape - mostly
directly from the synths output. IMO the JX8P doesn´t needs any outboard FX - it sounds huge and
it´s Basses shakes your ass permantly. For example the preset "Low strings" is a ever-classic, that
don´t need any "outwash" effects....
But most of todays synths, sounds dead and boring without their onboard effects...
BTW - if you listen to Tangerine Dreams "Tyger" album - They used the JX8P on many parts - even
that "Low strings" preset (for example on the track "London")....

Well, I guess that came out too strong. It is true that many of the pads (e.g. strings, voices, soundtrack) do sound great out of the box. But many other patches really get into a different dimension, when adding some reverb. I also did not mean to wash them out in effects, just adding a bit of reverb or some delay is normally sufficient.Schiffbauer wrote:Really? Here are 3 more drum machines that arent yet in the list:
ltmLab CR-78
ltmLab TR-808
ltmLab TR-909
These (and many others) were ported by Urs Heckmann under the ltmLabs label for the german Sound & Recording magazine, except for the 808, which appears to have been made for Keyboards.
Sound is generated via samples, which are embedded in the DLLs.
A couple of years ago the plugins could be downloaded via this URL from Sound&Recording, but right now the link simply just times out. Whether this is just a temporary issue or not is impossible to say at this point.
PS: The yellow and cyan text in the OP is virtually unreadable on the bright background. (Especially the yellow.) IMO it would be a good idea to change these to a darker color so they are legible on bright background too.
