Not only have some of the synths mentioned so far reached a level of 'so what' in me, so have some of the sound designers. Recreations of vintage synths doing recreations of ubiquitous sounds. Meh.
From those mentioned so far, I'd have to go with Spectral. But even that is not an endorsement to anything I would term as 'best'.

Okay, maybe Rayblaster... but is it more buzz term hype than reality?Numanoid wrote:Some other plugins released in 2013 by the major devs:

That was 2012 but I agree it's a fantastic synth.Numanoid wrote:Some other plugins released in 2013 by the major devs:

To me, the best surprise was Spire.

Depends on what you are after, Element can do many types of sound, unlike Xils V+ which in comparison is a one-trick pony.TheoM wrote:IMO Element isn't even a contender. That feels like a cookbook bog standard VA to me with the only great feature being the easy step sequencer. I can't see anything special about it's sound at all. I know opinion on this is very divided though.
I don't think Element is the best synth released this year, but it deserves to be mentioned as one of the better.

Ah I see, didn't realise there was a free Reaktor player version... ThanksTheoM wrote:It's no extra to use it over the $49, as the reaktor player is a free download for anyone, and also with some VERY cool "factory selection" patches

Xils Lab V+
(just bought Monark seconhand, yet to get the installer from N.I. I'm curious to try it as no demo available)

Totally agree. It's a very well-rounded synth.Numanoid wrote:Depends on what you are after, Element can do many types of sound, unlike Xils V+ which in comparison is a one-trick pony.TheoM wrote:IMO Element isn't even a contender. They haven't really set the KVR Forum on fire, but they got released in May this year
