Cycle?
No, joke at thread fuelling my GAS. :) Can't find Cycle but sounds really interesting!

Cyle is a must have even if for nothing but the cool graphics! 8)

TAL-101 gets my vote. But shouldn't we be seeing the big KvR survey results soon ?

WaveGenerator was released and people still think it's just another plugin, as in similar to countless unthrilling plugins, or not much above that. It's one of the best synths ever made, it's by a "synth legend" himself, in many ways it totally smashes several highly revered hardware synths, and the PC/Mac version finally enables much higher sound quality which wasn't possible with the tablet version.

For me, it is Monark!

Another synth I liked (but didn't buy) is Spectral by Linplug

There are also new cool synths that I liked:
Polygon and The Mangle

Why is it one of the best synths ever made? There is already the PPG Wave v.3. How is it different from that?

Same, opposite.

Spectral, is great, all around. Lovin it.
Monark is probably (and sounds) amazing, but I have not really kicked it around.
The Mangle... surely amazing.. havent tried it. :wheee:

I've been playing with Spire quite a bit and enjoy how easy it is to get a nice sound out of it. Still not so sure about the CPU usage though.

At the risk of being pedantic, WaveGenerator is an IOS port. I'm almost certain that it was released in 2012.
I probably won't buy it as a VST, I'll buy the iConnect Midi 4 and run it into my setup direct from the iPad.

Cool graphics indeed. Cycle is very sophisticated visually. I think perhaps Mangle and other new synths have been influenced by the new ipad apps -- using the increasing processing power for the graphics as well as the sound engine...and that is a good thing. I do like to see as well as hear what I am doing. Looking like a synth from the eighties...we've been there already.

I was wondering about that myself and thought that maybe that means that it is watered down to work with the smaller computer in the Ipad? I mean smaller in comparison to what you get compared to your typical computer CPU (ie:i7,i5,etc).

Other way around. It was designed to work with the iPad. I think the VST version has actually lost the 3d functionality.
Don't quote me on it though, I haven't in all honesty played with it that much :-)

Nothing really remarkable has come out in 2013 in terms of synths imo except for maybe Monark. I like Monark and even that is like a hey cool thing. I could happily make music without it too.

It may seem like it, but it's really not even a good comparison. At its core it sounds better, and it's much more flexible oscillator / wave sequencing-wise, envelope-wise and LFO/modulation-wise, and it's in a completely different level of intuitiveness and actual synthesis features. It has an amazing interface that allows you to create wavetables easier than ever (can't do that at all with PPG Wave 3.V). It has 3 wavetable oscillators instead of 2, 4 LFOs instead of 1, 13 envelopes instead of 3, 3 noise generators which are very useful, and various additional features which enable great sounds. It's the ultimate PPG synth.

Yes Sure Spectral is a great synth, but I have Harmor which IMO covers most of the sounds of Spectral. I also have Razor, Prism, FM8, Massive and some other digital sounding synths, so I felt I just don't need Spectral.

Monark is different. I don't have something like it!
