So this is more or less exactly like using a subphatty or similar with a retune osc2 via midi trick? Does it seem to not have an amp envelope for the second osc, or at least a new note on/off trigger and gate for it? I hope it would, I get that moog prices their filters dearly but an extra digital envelope* should be fairly cheap.

Didn't note even two glide times which is one of the nicer duophonic features (paraduo? :? )

(*I am just assuming that these new moogs use software envelopes because of their extreme flexibility and moog forum postings indicating that their behavior could possibly be 'updated', etc. Could be totally wrong assumption.)

At any rate (actually, preferably over 1000 H even :D ), would be very much appreciated if moog would stuff a ring mod or am or fm between the 2 oscs on these new synths.

You can gate the oscillators by using a circuit capable of halting and sending the halting pitch to them.

With pulse waveforms it is possible to gate using a single diode, capacitor and resistor, just mix the envelope directly with the signal and if the envelope + signal is above the drop voltage (usually 700m) it will pass through to the highpass.

That is how most gating circuits are set up. (When you multiply this by 100s you don't want to be using VCAs...)

Exciting stuff. I love my slim phatty but I wonder if this new moog will have a unique sound? Will have to wait and see I guess!

nice run through here,
talks about the duo/paraphonic issue too.

also refers to firmware updates that could/might/will allow for things like a 16-step sequencer {there's 16 led buttons on the front panel, for preset selection at the moment} and swing settings on the arp.

The sub 37 is on my wishlist. A May release in the US means that it probably won't be available here until August. And then in very limited numbers.
As for the theramini, it looks cute. I have a moog Theramin + (cv ins and outs) so that one can stay in the shop.
I'm tired of being insane. I'm going outsane for some fresh air.

ps..the aftertouch on the sub 37 turned it into a no brainer for me.

Got to admit, after seeing the videos, the para-duopitchphonic whatever worked much cooler than i imagined. Pretty nice.

Best new feature of sub37: removing Phatty from the name!

Really excited about this but is it true it is limited to only 1000 units?...
live 11 / Arturia collection / many Softube plug ins / thats it

I had to stop watching that video to post this...

WOW!!

That thing sounds good!
I bet it will be expensive lol

I love it when synths have a "duo" mode in conjunction with sync, distortion, and other intermodulation stuff, because you can play allsorts of funky harmonic effects. For example with sync, just hold a bass note and run your right hand up and down the keyboard - instant stepped sync sweep.

You can also sorta cheat with sync and play "harmonies" in the right hand and if you're out of tune, the sync effect covers it up and converts it into a funky timbre :hihi:

Anyway, the Sub37 really has my interest piqued. First moog board that hasn't made me feel yawny.

$1500. Not expensive for what it is, really. Could clear out 1000 units at a little over $2000, I would think. Very nice that Moog has been feeling competitive, lately. A little bit vicious, even?

No.

The 'tribute edition' is limited, though I'm not sure what the numbers are. And the differences are 'only' cosmetic.

From the tech-specs:
moog wrote:* Tribute edition includes Bob Moog signature panel, Wood sides, and Aluminum extrusion

** The Sub 37 Tribute is a limited edition analog synthesizer created in honor of Moog Music founder Dr Robert Moog, his passion for education, and his love of music. For every Sub 37 Tribute sold, Moog Music will donate a portion of the proceeds to Asheville Area School Music Programs.

1.5k is fairly close to the break even point, but only considering cost of development time, tools and equipment, limited purchase (<10k) of components and any required custom tooling / configuration of the line for a particular product.

Once you have all that sort of thing set up though costs are more in the range of $500, or even $300 when producing 10k> units with 100ks of components purchased at once.

If they wanted to be competitive they'd be priced something more like $800.

If the analog audio industry sees a real rebound and real competition I would love to see the resulting surface-mount configurations and miniaturization. With the common many-layered PCBs we have these days and extensive sub-miniature industry it will become possible to see a tiny pci-card sized module containing a whole polyphonic version of these synthesizers, fully modular.

Possible, but I don't think there is demand for that sort of thing. Not on the commodity scale like modern phones.

I'm already thinking of selling my beloved Sub Phatty (which I bought with the proceeds of a Slim Phatty) to buy the Sub 37 but the size is a problem... I'd have to get rid of something else to make room. Now I'm kicking myself for buying the Bass Station II. :scared: Oh well...

I'm thinking the same thing. I hope not everyone is thinking this :dog: ...

Was thinking of buying one of the (not inexpensive) moogerfoogers just to have an extra lfo but if this sub37 has 2 mod routers and some extra mod sources i don't really see the point in sinking anymore money into the subphatty.
