Exactly! There are many wrappers! ;)

The problem with PT and AAX is that the requirements are riddiculous. It doesn't have the same structure as other plugins and needs stupid things like "Pace iLok verification or something...". And the most probable cause is not that it's safer or something, but that Avid wasn't able to do the development well enough, at least no other host needs it and all of them were able to use some standard interface, except for PT. Instead of some development on Avid's side, which would be a normal thing, they just want to make everyone's life more complicated... It's kind of sad the whole situation about PT, especially since it isn't even any kind of excellent host... It's just the old name, that everyone knows.
There are some things, that make sense in AAX, but these are just tiny little improvements and since other plugin formats work different way, these actually make things complicated and are not really worth it.
Well what can we do, life is sometimes complicated :D.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are a lot of aax plugs without ilok.
The problem with a wrapper is, that it's always more hassle, less reliable. Also they won't work as AudioSuite (offline). Automation is a problem as well.
I've seen sessions not loading because of wrappers...
For my personal musical stuff I might put up with this, but for customers....

I can understand your grief about PT, I sang the same tune for quite a while. (I am a freelancer who HAS to use it sometimes) With 11 they have done some cool things, though. Seeing a half hour TV show bounce entirely from RAM in just 2 minutes is quite breathtaking.
In Nuendo I really love the Mautodynamiceq, for my PT work it loos like I will need to fine something else. Most likely DMG Equilibrium. In the future I will not buy non Aax anymore, it makes me buy evereything twice.
SOUND!
