Another Bug -- Egoist doesn't sync to host

This is either a bug or a big oversight :) Setting clock source to external, Egoist still doesn't sync to host. It's tempo matches, but unlike every other Sugar Bytes plugin w/ a sequencer, this one doesn't start and stop with the host. Only to it's own play button.

This severely limits the usefulness of Egoist as an audio slicer :( Tried both in Studio One and Live 9.

Please fix! Will not be able to really use this plugin w/out this basic funtionality.

I have the same problem. I use Logic and Egoist doesn't start and stop with the host. And there's no possibility to put the patterns in the Logic arrangement page, now I understand the meaning of the name "Egoist"!

Post

we decided to always start egoist with a midi note.

with internal clock selected, the midi note will restart egoist,
with external clock selected, egoist will start at the the current song position.

using egoist always with midi notes, (unless you are jamming around with the internal playbutton)
is what we considered easier to use than an additional option that you would have to look after,
as soon as you wanna switch between host and midi start.

but we are thinking about this option,

Thanks for the reply. I must be misunderstanding this. I have "External" selected. But when I start the host (Ableton Live 9 or Studio One), egoist doesn't start the pattern playback . . . does one always have to use the midi note to start the sequencer?

Because there is no multi-out option, the only way I know to bounce the slice playback down to audio is if Egoist starts playback w/ the host. Also if I have a cool slice pattern, it would be great for it to play back automatically in sync w/ the host.

we added daw start-sync in the 1.0.1 update.

our intention was, that Egoist should only be used with midi notes.

in ableton you usually would run Egoist with a Midi clip with a 1-bar note in it.
that workflow gives you perfect control of pattern selection and silent parts.

we now added host sync to the "external" mode, while you´re still able to
control Egoist with midi notes, using the "internal" mode.

The original behavior was much more fun and creative IMO. The song position triggering was cool because you were able to start the pattern at different points synced to the host playback position. Would I be able to get the original version to continue demoing this? I installed the newer demo version over the original demo version and I don't have the original version to install. I definitely am buying this. You guys are crazy! I love this plugin.

Yes, don't throw out the baby with the bathwater! The 'legato' behavior of previous/original 'external sync' was useful (Izotope's Breaktweaker works in this same way and it is definitely a great creative feature').

Please put it back in if possible!!! unless I am not understanding and both 'daw sync' AND the previous external/MIDI triggered 'legato' are both options now?

Not to panic, but again I must insist upon the return of the previous 'legato' ability of external sync via MIDI note triggering…it was a deciding factor in my purchase and having it dismissed based on a forum comment is not sitting well with me :(

'Legato' mode is a unique feature for slicers and I think you were right with the first release, please put it back. Have the DAW sync a option in preferences if necessary but don't dumb down this feature!!!

Thanks in advance

Perfectly said! What makes the Legato mode so cool also was the fact that it made Egoist more of a design forward plugin, which will take part in creating tomorrows music. Please don't move backwards in time. Your vision for Egoist was perfect the first time.

we really appreciate how deep you are diving into the Egoist rabbithole.
before the release, the team had intensive discussions about host start.

we came to the conclusion that egoist should be always used with midi notes,
because you would do it anyway at a certain point in your song writing.

with the 1.0.1 update we stepped back to the old "external" mode,
because we didn´t want to introduce another option.

I think we will now take all your desires into account and add that
start option to the external mode.

thank you for the feedback,

:) I appreciate you being open and responsive to this issue, thank you.

Loving the 'slice play' and look forward to the return of 'legato'!

I for one like the external host start/stop so if you could somehow make all 3 of these modes available as options it would be a win/win.

Thanks!
