It seems pretty obvious that the problem is mostly internal... :scared:

I don't give a flying butter about soundcoud internal problems. Yet, I feel somewhat alienated after reading this... I never head about 99% of mentioned artists. I head about Justin Bieber (I don't recall actually hearing him, just seeing the name bouncing around pulp news) and that's it. Looks like news from another planet for me. :scared:

I doubt if Soundcloud is running its own bots. You can buy that sort of action off Fiverr for, um, a fiver and there's plenty of self-interest among artists and labels to pay the money to get recommends in much the same way they can buy Beatport downloads.

Soundcloud hoovers them out once in a while (although I've noticed it doesn't always reset the likes from personal experience of having yer old-fashioned spam bots pass by). They could do more but fighting spam is a full-time occupation as any fule, blog owner, forum admin kno.

You can purchase fake fans, and fake likes for your facebook page.

Trust your ears. If the music sounds like s*it, it is s*it.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I don't understand why the author of that article is so convinced it's SoundCloud doing the botting. Every piece of information he presented could just as easily point to third-party bots being the culprit.

Well, this is one reason:

http://help.soundcloud.com/customer/por ... -for-spam-

As you can see, the "any previous likes or reposts will still be listed on their profile."

Sure, perhaps this was implemented due to comment spam and the repost bot issue wasn't quite as significant back then. Even so they need to really up their game at this point. It should be easy to detect accounts that do nothing but repost and spam. If such an account is flagged combined with a threshold of spam reports, that account should be removed, the source ip should be blocked site-wide and sent to a "this ip has been flagged for spam. if this has been in error..." page of some sort.

The fact they aren't jumping on this seems a little questionable.

How does a bot with an image like this stay on the site more than a week?

Code: Select all

example: https://soundcloud.com/woxonexa92
Are these bots re-encoding the images to mess up the hash, or what?

Wow, is that how things work today?! :? Buying plays and follows?! Wft :P

Glad I don't have a SC account :hihi:

There are just way too many people trying to make it in the music industry, people who should become hair dressers and bank employees instead :hihi:

I stopped paying for soundcloud pro account recently after I kept getting banned for promoting my music WITHOUT bots!

It made my laugh when a "big name" EDM artist (lets say it' s something like Steven A) posted a track and it instantly had 2 million plays and thousands of "one liner" comments by obviously fake accounts.

It does take much time on soundcloud to see all this, but the idea that soundcloud is doing it is a new idea to be.

Keep investigating it. :)

Is it like with Lush and Dune2 on the caviar website? They are featured all the time and I don't know why, as if they were the only plugins out there 8)
