And to the bottom they could make small "routing" window, e.g. LA-2A -> LN1176 or vice versa , that would be something! :)

EDIT: By the way, so far it sounds really good! I put it on the drum buss, tweaked some well known knobs of opto & fet and whoa, the groove is alive!
That would require two instances of presswerk to work, and for the rare instance that you need two compressors on the same bus, just load up another presswerk instance. I like the simplicity of its current form.

I do agree that the blank panel is a little annoying though. Maybe having a way to tweak L/R and M/S like you can for the Vari-mu comp would make use of that blank space. But that would take away from the looks of the Fet and Opto compressors, and everyone knows that looks are everything! :hihi:

I like the possibility of M/S compression. But when I encode from L/R to M/S and back before and after Presswerk, the sound is much better controllable than with M/S compression in Presswerk alone. Sounds as if the M and S channels are not really separated in Presswerk.

Is there a kind of "soft M/S" implemented or is it a bug?

... or do I miss a setting that is required for full separation of the M and S channels? I am in normal mode, all saturation and such are turned off. Even with hard compression on the side channel I get more of stereo than the settings normally would allow. The meters look correct but the sound isn't.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. When I turn up the input for side compression, my right channel gets louder. Something is definitely not right.

I posted this a few pages back, Urs is aware of it.

Also would be nice to have MIX on each view, since I tried parallel compression on all the views and the phase is not aligned in HQ mode (well at least that's what I hear). In other words - it doesn't sound good. In manual it states that one should use the internal mixer but it is available only in 'Normal' view.

Tune your setting on one of the vintage views, then switch to normal view to adjust the mix.

I know there was some talk re dbx160... but was it ever stated if a VCA model is going to be added to Presswerk?

VCA would be great indeed, Presswerk the Compression Monster! But I think we're being greedy, maybe it would be added later as in Diva.

I am also looking forward to some presets!

It's very rare that I find myself wanting to use a compressor with different settings for each channel (only ever in MS and I can't think of a single time I've ever wanted to do that with LR) so I'd think that would be a secondary option, rather than the default.
I second that sentiment.
Me too. I intuitively grab one of the knobs, mostly the upper one and then I remember, dang, not gonna work that way...

...or add more stickers and custom labels to fill the void :)

Been using it for a few days.

This thing is great. Most of my compression needs are covered by the 3 vintage modes.
Plan on buying it next week.

Great work guys

Urs... please dont make the mistake UAD have of not including WET/DRY knobs on every plugin (some of them do, the more recent ones)... Its a MUST!

Agreed everyone?

There is a dry/wet knob, it just doesn't appear in the quick modes. If you want to see it, just go back to the normal mode, which doesn't change the sound but expands the full list of settings.

The quick modes aren't extra, or unique models per se, they're essentially dumbed down presets from the advanced mode, designed to sound and respond more like those classics. So you don't lose anything by getting the sound you want in one mode, then switching over to the full mode to fine tune some additional parameters.

oh right.. i didnt understand that.. i thought each mode was unique but actually if you think of a tier structure..
normal is the boss and the other three, sit on the same tier and are like "facias" but ultimately you could achieve the same sound from the normal mode?

Here is an oddity.

Go to Vari mu switch to M/S
Switch to Normal and M/S is engaged there too.
Go back to Vari Mu and it has reset to stereo.

Now you got it!
