Presswerk is giving me a huge CPU hit -- running Logic X on an IMac 2.5GHz Core i5 with 16 G of ram. Any strategies to reduce the CPU hit? When I just have one instance of it, on for instance the drum bus, it peaks one of the cores completely.

Reason for that was said before, would be rather irritating when flippin through presets if the GUI window resizes constantly...

To have so much empty space covering the screen is just plain nonsense, sorry.

If you are worried about flipping through presets, they could be categorized into presets that use the full view, or the quick views. Problem solved.

But honestly, a compressor is not a synth, where you flip through dozens or even hundreds of sounds.
I personally never use presets for compressors, but even people who do will hardly flip through a lot of them, becasue they are usually organized to fit certain instruments.

Hm, I have the exact same setup as yourself and I'm not seeing this. It uses maybe half a core at most when the normal UI is up, less when it's the Opto and maybe 10% of a core when the UI is closed on Mavericks. You running Yosemite?

The views can actually be thought of more as presets, then when you switch back to normal view, it keeps the sound but shows you all the controls.... right?

Hm, I have the exact same setup as yourself and I'm not seeing this. It uses maybe half a core at most when the normal UI is up, less when it's the Opto and maybe 10% of a core when the UI is closed on Mavericks. You running Yosemite?

No. I'm actually still on 10.8.5 because I have to be able to open Pro Tools 10 which is not supported in Mavericks or Yosemite.

I just started using an AVID Artist Control -- i wonder if Eucon is forcing more CPU useage??? I'll do some experimenting.

if the gui resizing on presets would be possible at all, how about some kind of option for "allow GUI resize" so everyone is happy?

Especially when you compare this "empty" panels to the main one which is filled with a rich design, it makes a huge and unpleasant difference.

Depends. If the presets are organized in categories ('Drums', 'Mastering') I would maybe flick through them - nothing wrong about using presets as a starting point, especially if you are more musician than sound engineer.

I am absolutely fine with the performance on a MacBook Pro 2.4 i5 (Reaper, Mavericks). The CPU hit is slightly bigger as it is with other "common" compressors (Pro-C, The Glue, Waves 76/2A) and on HQ setting it doubles but it's fine with the sound it produces.

I'd say that's a great idea with the HQ button, but not the ANLG button

"What you hear is what you get" should be rule NO1 for any studio software. A mix balance can suffer badly when the sound changes on rendering. That is on mixprocessors even more important than on sound sources. But even there a better rendering might not be really better in context of the track.

Higher quality on rendering should be only an option. In ideal one that is visually indicated somehow on the plugs main window

And regarding the demo, do you mention issues here?

I have problems to enter the temp serial.. it refuses to take it and i cant close the plug in window anymore. controls on the plug do react and the demo crackle is played.. will restart the daw now
