I can certainly relate to that only on the mac, it's OS 9. 9 is MUCH better on system resources than X ever will be. The truth is that Tracktion was the final reason I migrated to OS X! Honest!
I also have hope that the linux will grow and improve. I've not tried it myself but have read a number of reports on "yellow dog" linux (hope I got the name right) running on older powerbooks and it's supposedly VERY fast and stable. I could see a point in the future where older powerbooks could get a new life as dedicated linux audio workstations.
I keep holding out. Money is tight for investments into non-art materials. I have it in my head that I won't buy another powerbook until I can get at least 1 ghz with superdrive for a grand (new or refurb from apple.) We're almost there with the ibooks. Perhaps the next revision will have superdrives across the line? I guess I'd still rather buy the powerbook for the better video, cache and more reliable construction. I also like the idea of using the built in mic and line-in for quick recording on the go.

I watched the keynote video. Made me think that apple is a really smart bussiness. They really are praticle and always on the edge as far as innovative ideas and simplicity. Got to give it Steve Jobs.

Yeah I think it will have a lot of pretty but useless (pretty useless) stuff sucking all the resources. Luckily I'm one of the few who is very happy with XPvalley wrote:

I know nothing about Linux but would not hessitate to switch for a second, aslong as I could run all the apps I need and it gave me good performance better than MS stuff. I have no loyalty towards any OS. Just give me the fastest with the most software.
So back on the Apple topic, they got some cool stuff comin out, I hope everybody else copies the good stuff in time for me to upgrade

Thanks for your efforts. Having not experienced any of the PC plugs I can't really say. Senderella sounds like a worthy experience, as does the enhanced browser ... i don't know what Mod finally called it ..
Senderella, Stepchild, Mods browser... all of it, ALL OF IT!!!
Would it be possible to kind of built in iTunes into Mods browser, or is this far out? heheheh!!
Well, thing is, I use iTunes for all my samples, and it would be a killer, to just drag and drop to the timeline!!!!!!!!
A lot of mac people will appreciate all your work for shure, dont wory about that!!!

Stepchild is definitely the first choice for me. Thank you, Karbon, for taking this on -- I just got into Tracktion these past few weeks, and between the cross-platform capabilities and the incredible user interface (how did I overlook this, and why did I stay with Cubase for so long?), it's been quite a whirlwind. Getting Stepchild working on the Mac will complete the experience for me, as I'm looking to pick up a PowerBook as soon as I can afford it.
