Using Satin in Studio Mode

I really feel like that my 'understanding' of how Studio mode works is inverted and that I making a basic mistake in terms of my understanding of the feature, so if anyone could link me to a detailed run down on using Satins Studio Mode and Groups I'd really appreciate it.

In the meantime, here's my confused understanding, and a simple example setup which I'm experimenting with. Ok. So, I have Satin as an effect on four sends, with each Satin instance belonging to an individual group - Kick (Group 1), Snare (Group 2), Cymbals (Group 3) and Rimshot (Group 4). I know that I can also have other sends with Satin and on each of these sends, have Satin set to use a particular Group (e.g. I could have X number of sends assigned to the same Group), but I omitted doing that as I wanted to keep the setup simple.

On my master out, I also have another instance of Satin which has No Group and Bypass Tape configured. It was my understanding that I could remote control each Group from the master instance; e.g. I could select (Group 4) Rimshot on master, and configure a delay on it, then select Group 1 (Kick) and reduce the ips and so on. This way I would only have one instance to manage all the other Group settings.

Instead, when I select a Group on master, that Groups configuration is applied to master... which was fine, as I was able to change Group settings temporarily, but when I reverted Satin on master back to No Group, those settings I made to the previously activated Group were no longer being applied to any other sends that also had that Group enabled! Methinks I've got this backwards... any words of advice? I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here and I'd love an example from anyone out there who has used Satin in Studio mode :)

I thought about this again and I think one of the reasons I was/am confused, was that I was interpreting Satins Studio mode in terms of using Satin as an analog tape summer, with each Group being an input channel, and with the Satin plugin on master being the place where I could manage all of my Satin Group input channels in one location i.e. as a summing mixer. I guess this was a confusion between U-He Satin's grouping feature and Waves NLS Non Linear Summer's mixer feature - but again, I'm probably missing something here.

I'd still appreciate any feedback anyone has on this and some clarification on whether or not I can use Satin as a summing mixer (rather than / in conjunction with using it as a remote control for multiple instances, if that is right way to interpret Satins studio mode). Or even a simple way to emulate it as a summing mixer by via bussing. Cheers!

(Perhaps the info on page 12 of the manual is a bit short...)
No, Satin's grouping doesn't sum.

Cheers Howard. Yep, I agree, the manual could do with a little more clarification there (for me at least)! I guess I'll try emulating summing via bus routing to another instance of Satin just to see what I end up with. Thanks again. :)

The idea of grouping instances is to make several act as one 'entity', in terms of remote control. You basically touch one of them and fiddle with the controls, and all others (within the same group) follow along. Audio, though, isn't affected by this. Each instance still has its own independent processing going on. Like on a multi-track recorder, so to say, where tracks are individual but share a common control set or mechanics/transport mechanism.
