I think that Studio One 2 will fit your needs. I usually work on electronic club type of track, progressive house mainly. I could test Logic Pro X for a long period ending up with a song with 150 tracks. As you, i like layering leads, drums etc...

I have tried Cubase 4 or 5 times ago, never liked. i'll take forever just to get how to do easy things, i prefer make music than learning a complicated daw.

I think Logic is great but when working with audio other daws can handle things better... Let's say i wanna transponse up or down a loop or a sample. In Studio One just open Ispector set the value and done, in Logic it's not that fast and easy. Also zooming here and there, really slow in Logic, really fast in Studio One.

On the other hand Logic is a more mature daw with better gui (loved s1 v2, v3 just sucks for me really cluttered), stock plugins and sounds are really great. I think both have great freezing capabilities but for me Logic does it slightly better, S1 can turn vsti into audio but can't lock them, Hide features is easier and better in Logic. Plugins favourites is better in Logic. Studio One has a far superior browser. Can play things in bpm and host synced. and so on.

What i loved about Logic: GUI, quality stock plugins, freezing, hide, auto focus on track, track stacks for bussing (also for audio)
What i hated about Logic: audio handling, no 32 bit support, solo routing sucks, zooming and bugs on aumations, Export options

What i Love about S1: easy workflow, drag and drop, musicloops, browser, now as bezier curve, macro and shortcuts, PDC
What i hate about S1: bad quality of stock plugins (mixverb), new gui, new stretching algo, no tempo detection, tracklist feature is not complete, can't lock tracks, unfreezing stuff will lost new automations, no autofocus.

For me the the best daw would be a mix between Logic and Studio One.

Don't know if it still possible to start a v2 demo period, but you should check it anyway. Bought v3 from the start but ending up still using V2.

Thanks ! :)
I'm gonna try Cubase first, but if I don't like it, I'll manage to find a way to get a demo of S1 v2. :)

Hi everyone,
I haven't started testing Cubase yet (I'll probably do it this weekend, when I'm at my studio), but I've done some research. Cubase effects seem more basic than logic ones... So I'd like to know if there is a VST replacement for Stereo Delay , Delay Designer, and the new LPX Compressor. Actually I've never seen any fx that could do the same thing as those...
Also I think I'd miss the EXS... Any idea what I could replace it with ?
Thanks in advance.

Wanna spend money on replacements (and how much for each) or asking for freebies?

Well, here are perfect replacements anyways :tu:

http://www.kvraudio.com/product/echoboy-by-soundtoys
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/presswerk-by-u-he

EXS, if yo used it as a drum sampler

http://www.kvraudio.com/product/vps-pha ... ance-sound

if not, you have HALion in Cubase

On a budget side:

http://www.kvraudio.com/product/tkdelay-by-tritik or http://www.kvraudio.com/product/hornet-deelay-by-hornet
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/dc8c-by-klanghelm

Well most free VSTs aren't that good, so yeah I think I'll have to pay the replacements.
Presswerk seems very good, I'll give it a try ! ;) Echoboy doesn't really look like what I'd like. What I used most in the Logic Delay plugin was the fact you can change the input (L/R/both) to create ping pong delay (with the crossfeed knobs), and Echoboy doesn't seem to have that option.

What I liked about the EXS is that you could put as many samples as you want in it, contrary to Geist or Battery. So I use geist when I only want one or two sounds (Clap, open hat, etc), ans I use EXS when I want to use or create a drum loop. Also I use EXS for some short sounds and FX (vocal chops for instance) : that way I can add as many sounds as I want...

Edit : tkDelay looks a bit more like what I'm looking for. Too bad there's no "manual phasing" option (I mean setting delay time to 74.66 instead of 75 to make it sound a bit phased). DeeLay : no ping pong, not for me.
Oh and also I'm using other compressors too (waves Rcomp, the sonalksis one, etc) but I'm looking something to do the same job as the logic one. I've found no other compressor with the distortion option, and that is veeeeery useful ! ;)

There's Ping Pong mode on EchoBoy among others, it's probably the most popular delay plugin on the market, so don't dismiss it that easily, but for the price, TriTik one is no brainier really

DC8C is compressor you should check than, it's most versatile one and have distortion/saturation, again, no brainier, but no demo, so do research about it :tu:

Actually, I remember testing an old version of echoloy (on Logic 9) and didn't find that ping pong option... But I'll test it again, juste like all the others

Yeah, that's the best way, happy demoing

Also what I like about Logic's Delay is to be able to have different delay times for the L and R delays. I use that a lot for pianos ans high plucks.

Logic stock stuff is fantastic overall, there's truly some gem's in there, I don't think any DAW offers that complete package. :tu:

There's Windows only free delay that mimics Logic's Tape and Stereo one's, from this developer (Analogic&Bionic)
http://www.kvraudio.com/developer/the-interruptor

but there's nothing on Mac free side tho :scared:

Yeah I already know Bionic delay from an Air Nigh video, it's great. But for windows indeed.
I've made some research and apparently Timeless v2 is quite good too. Gonna try that one ! On the other hand, I can't see any way to make ping pong with it...

Don't have any experience with that one unfortunately :scared:

Check this out
