The MUX Modular 6.5.27 pre-release packages are available in http://www.mutools.com/forsythia

What's new: http://www.mutools.com/mulab-mux-65-change-log.html (=common change log for MuLab and MUX Modular)

All feedback very welcome!

Much appreciated. I'll be trying out the 32bit version in Audacity at some point as MuX is better at finding plugins than Audacity is. I'm hoping they'll work nicely together.

Post

Pls let me know if all works fine. Thx.

I had one, non-reproducible crash with Spiral Echo - but it seems basically stable. I used it with some other presets and was able to apply an effect I patched together. I've not tried it with any VSTs yet (I've not installed any 32bit ones other than MSED). The crash could have been down to Audacity (I've only just started using the latest release, so I've yet to get a feel for how stable it is).

Speaking of MSED... I tried to patch up a Stereo to Mid-Side patch but the splitter / combinator modules obviously output "mono", which, when "mixed" to stereo on an audio out result in a gain in dB. I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing. Any clues?

Post

Can you pls elaborate on this.

Post

I mean: If you split a stereo signal and then combine the mono left and right signals again, it will result in the original signal, no volume change. So i'm not sure what you mean.

Post

There is a mid/side patch in the factory lib under MonoStereo.

There are some gain issues to be taken care.
Take a mono signal. First you add Left + Right = 2 x input. When combinig back to stereo, you have MID at Left AND Right. So, you basically have twice doubled levels.

The Mid-Side Processor patch is fine if the processing it provides is the processing you want, as are the other MidSide patches. They are not what I want to do, unfortunately. It would be easier simply to have "Stereo L/R Pair to M/S Pair" as one patch and "M/S Pair to Stereo L/R Pair" as another patch (with "pair" being one MuX audio connector point).

Maybe something like this:
"Stereo L/R Pair to M/S Pair" = Audio In -> Stereo Splitter -> Audio Balancer 2 -> 1 (M -> -6dB) (S -> -6dB) -> Audio Out
"M/S Pair to Stereo L/R Pair" = Audio In -> Audio Balancer 1 -> 2 (M -> +6dB) (S -> +6dB) -> Stereo Combiner -> Audio Out

I'll have to give that a try. (It's just I noticed the inverter in the M/S patch and I'm hesitant to do something too simple.)

Post

It's really dead simple.
Stereo (L/R) to M/S:
M=L+R
S=L-R

And back
(L+R)+(L-R) = 2*L
(L+R)-(L-R) = 2*R

So, it's only adding and an inverter.
Plus you need the level adjustment in the back conversion. (I didn't research properly yesterday)

There is no MuX module that outputs a single audio out with M/S on it -- you get a pair of outs, one with M and one with S. That's effectively two channels for M (a "mono" channel inside MuX) and two channels for S (a second "mono"). If you simply connect those four channels to a two channel Audio Out module, you get unwanted signal amplitude gain (2*M, 2*S). Hence my thinking I'd need to stick the Audio Balancer 2->1 in with -6dB on both input pairs.

New MUX Modular VST 6.5.28 RC version in http://www.mutools.com/forsythia

Latest MUX Modular plug-in related changes:
  • Drag-dropping a parameter on an envelope part editor not starting at 1.1.0 was not showing a proper drag point. Fixed.
  • Finetuned behaviour when drag-dropping a parameter onto an envelope editor while the parameter is being automated.
  • Multi-sample zone "Gain" parameter display was not showing the right dB value. Fixed.
  • More relaxed auto-delete for unused sequences and samples. (less auto-deletes)
How to update from MUX Modular 6.5.27: Simply replace the 2 DLL and the 2 ID files by the new versions.

Will you make a video showing the main improvements in this new version like the one you made for the 6.4.18?

Post

Also, please take a look at my post here. You could consider it as a feature request for MUX.

Cheers
