I'm a little perplexed as to why this would even be offered? I know what FL looks like and based on this download that's all I can do with it. Why not just wait until it works a little better...

Perhaps they're trying to get info from a larger variety of systems, configurations and users to find out what they need to do in order to make it work better.DHR53 wrote:I'm a little perplexed as to why this would even be offered? It is clearly labeled 'alpha', so I don't see what the issue is. If you don't want alpha software, don't download and use alpha software.

I have to agree with the general sentiment that Alpha's are buggy by nature, like, really buggy... like "early stage software".
To read this thread and see things like... (paraphrase) ... "Tried it, crashed, oh well." ... is a testament to lack of focus of the net in general.
It's an alpha. Unless it's not supposed to be doing very much, like maybe an alpha for a software calculator, it's kinda gonna blow up.

Alpha, people.
Try to use the brain here
An alpha is going to be, by its very nature, buggy.
Sheesh

Field testing, helps in getting it to work better.DHR53 wrote:I'm a little perplexed as to why this would even be offered? I know what FL looks like and based on this download that's all I can do with it. Why not just wait until it works a little better...

Here's what I wrote in the original FL Studio 12 OS X ALPHA 0.1 TEST VERSION thread, let me cut and paste the forum code so you get color and everything:aMUSEd wrote:Field testing, helps in getting it to work better.DHR53 wrote:I'm a little perplexed as to why this would even be offered? READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING
As ALPHA software FL Studio OS X Alpha 0.1 IS missing features. It will crash, it is very buggy AND is NOT ready for production work. The purpose of this ALPHA is to:
1. Show you where we are up to with FL Studio for OS X and to assuage fears that we are *really* working on it.
2. To get some idea of how this installs and runs on a wide range of systems. Lets us know about graphics performance. We have a lot of optimizations to do here.
3. Alpha software = for TESTING, not working.
BUGS
You can report them (although we are aware of many already), but don't expect us to act on them for a while, we are still in heavy development
This is a Native OS X version of FL Studio 12. It is not a Windows application in disguise.

I also said, "this post was more about not letting down those people who were expecting Alpha Testing to start in July. And it has."
So this Alpha was intended for our customers who were tracking the Native OS X status update thread, not really people here on KVR who didn't know, or care about it.

Confucious says: "If you want to protect really private information like your social security number or credit card info, put it in the user manual or in a "read me!" text file, or in the EULA, nobody reads those."

OK. the real question here is whether Alpha software should even be provided with a link. How about "it's in Alpha testing" ...on "our" macs at the moment. Stay Tuned.
My Alpha bad...

That was already explained. They are trying to figure out bugs on a wider range of systems, and more specifically meet a verbal deadline where they promised something in july.DHR53 wrote:OK. the real question here is whether Alpha software should even be provided with a link. I don't understand why this is so confusing.

It is not that confusing once alphas are understood as such, but you see, this is another FL thread. It has to go sideways at some point.

Looks like it finally hit beta stage.
Has anyone had a chance to beta test this?

spent about 10min on it today. Most of that time was spent trying to get the windows visible. some of the main windows were stuck under the top toolbar and the arrange windows function and layouts is not implemented yet. eventually got it
I've forgotten so much about how to use this program. I used it heavily until about 2006. There used to be a pitch and velocity lane in the step sequencer, now I guess you must use the piano roll.
Must say it looks really nice.
Crash at exit.
