In fact thinking about it, I'd much prefer a smarter input, so that as I type, the software is already making a tag by putting a tag graphic around it. Then there would be no room for misunderstanding.

This makes the most sense.

Right when you type in a letter, the first tag is created and you see the rect border. You type more letters to spell the word, the existing tag is just getting expanded, once you hit space Bitwig could finalize the tag behind the scenes and as soon as a non space character is typed this operation repeats itself.

Having this setup, you will always see a border rect around everything, even the last one. Instead of typing space at the end or seeing "naked" text, people would know all tags have been recorded and when OK is pressed life's balance returns to normal.

Sorry if I'm missing something because I don't have the beta, but if space finalizes a tag then how would you create a two word tag? I some people are gonna want that eventually.

You can't. You just create multiple tags.

You can't. You just create multiple tags.

No, what I said is they could create them automatically as you type, and break them apart with space.

If you wanted spaces in a tag and Bitwig changed their minds', you could use enter.

Ok, just wanted to throw that out there since it seems like more of an oversight/flaw in implementation than an FR and it was relevant to this discussion of how to get that dialogue box working. I mean I can't imagine there aren't going to be times where people are going to want to use a phrase or something as a tag. I assume the bigwigs read these threads but I guess sending in an FR is the real/official way.

Ctrl / Cmd or any other key makes no difference. Though I agree it would be a good way to produce multiword tags, should they choose to allow it.

Yeah, whenever there's a discussion about how to implement this or that, I wonder if the devs are reading through it just thinking, "uh, well it's nice that they care I guess" when they already know what they have to do and none of our ideas would work for this or that reason.

@dsan, yeah I suppose things should be kept brief and simple, but for one, you might not want to force your user into what you would consider best practice. Two, some phrases are pretty short and might be the most descriptive and memorable thing the user can think of. Three, you won't always have to search for tags now that the popup browser exists. People will probably be using that most of the time and just selecting the tags from that column.

I downloaded the bitwig 1.2 beta4, opened my old projects and started to group my instrumenttracks with the new feature
A group for percussion, synths etc. ...after putting the instrument and audio tracks into the group no sound is coming trough when i hit the play button. I can see the timeline moving, but no sound at all. Selecting an instrumenttrack and playing with the midikeyboard works fine, I can hear the sound.

...even now, after moving the instrumenttracks back there is no sound. ...i also selected the whole arrangement to make sure nothing is muted.


what am I doing wrong!?
