Feel welcome to share new knob designs for MuLab / MUX Modular here in this topic.

Technical notes wrt designing a MU knob:
  • A MU knob's source picture needs to be grayscale except for the pixels that must be recolored to the target color (which may be theme or front panel dependent), these should be in shades of red. The redish pixels will be replaced by the target color. Example: Lets say the target color is pure green, then a pure red pixel will become pure green, and half grey-red pixel will become half grey-green. It's like changing the 'Hue' parameter:
    Image
  • Eventhough the current M6 knob.png uses a 32 pixels size, note that this may/will be changed to a 64 or even 128 pixels size. Not decided on that yet, but please take it into account and keep/share your source files so that the knob can be rerendered in another size.
  • A full knob picture strip is recommended to have 65 states, organized vertically, going from value 0% = 225° to value 100% = 315°. See:
    http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/common ... e-knob.png
  • Also make a bidirectional version of the knob: It also has 65 states, organized vertically, but going from value -100% = 225° via value 0% = 90° to value 100% = 315°. See:
    See http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/common ... -bidir.png
  • When you're designing a new knob and you want to quickly try out any new edits you did while MuLab / MUX Modular is active, then you can use the "Reset Graphic Resources" function to reload the updated knob.png picture file. This "Reset Graphic Resources" is only accessible via a shortcut though so first assign a shortcut key to this function (only needs to be done once) then you can always press that key to reload all graphic files and see any recent changes you saved to the graphics file.
  • Because a knob strip is organized vertically (currently 32x2080 pixels), it's recommended to share a link to such knob strip instead of really including the picture in the post cause otherwise the posts get much too long. Maybe i'll also add support for horizontal organization but until then best use links. Of course it's ok to show a single knob state as a 32x32 or 64x64 or 128x128 knob picture.
  • Please also share the source files for the knobs so they can be edited and rerendered when necessary.
Looking forward to your creations and also to the opinions of other users about any new knobs posted here. If your knob design is selected to be included in the standard MuLab / MUX Modular package and you don't have a MuLab / MUX Modular user key yet, i'll be happy to give you one for free. And if you do already have a user key, you'll get M7 for free for sure!

Here is a link to a folder with a few different knob styles.

sundial has different tones for the bi-directional so i used a different preset:

Please try them out, different presets do justice to different designs. I still haven't figured which one works best all round yet.

Apologies if I've put wrong files in wrong folders or something stupid like that. I will share the source files but would like to clean them up first, it's a big mess of unused and unnamed layers at the moment.

Right, off to bed, it's getting late in this corner of the globe!

Wow, nice designs and good effort :tu:

I'm afraid I still prefer the defaults though, sorry

Thanks for sharing! Where is Mapleton Drive?

@chuckwood, I think knob test1 you posted earlier is simple, fast to interpret, and clear at a distance

Good point, just for fun, 'Mapleton Drive' now added to the folder.

Thanks Michael, appreciated. That design ended up becoming 'sundial' which I thought blended a little better with MUX but maybe I overcooked it, hehe. I have now uploaded that one you mentioned to the folder, it's now named 'donut'.

Good knob job ( if you'll pardon the phrase )
Out of those I like knob1 and Sundial best.
Beauty is only skin deep,
Ugliness, however, goes right the way through

I tried chuckwood's 'knob1' with my green colour scheme.

hey guys how can i get these added in to mulab thank you for any help :tu:

Go to chuckwood's Google Drive folder above. Each of his designs above has its own folder. Inside each folder are two files: Knob.png and BiDirKnob.png. Replace the respective files in MuLab App> Graphics> Common> Icons with chuckwood's files.
By the way, "Knob1" is now called "donut", and there are two of each (Knob and BiDirKnob). The first one of each pair has thick lines (as in chuckwood's original grey/orange image) and the second has thin lines (as in my grey/green image).
Sorry about all the punctuation, runaudio :D

Very nice.

The donut knobs are now in separate folder 'thin line' and 'thick line'. Thanks for the suggestion Michael L.
