The new features of the cab config are only if you pay to upgrade the software...not the AT4 custom shop(free). If you use the free one, you can buy all the different models you want...new ones, old ones, the new red one...and they will work...but you won't be able to swap out the speaker cones.

If you pay to upgrade, you also get a set of new models...I have no idea if they were worth anything or not...

Those are included in the upgrade. I would guess you can choose to not pay to upgrade and just use AT4 custom shop, buy the red model from the custom shop, but you would not get the updated features..you have to pay to upgrade the software in order to get that. The upgraded feature set is mostly the cab config GUI..and ability to swap the speaker cones inside the cabs, and built somewhat totally custom cabs that way. its not really worth $99 in my opinion for that alone. however they are charging something like $30+ for each of the new models right now, quite expensive actually. So if you wanted to just buy the red model, you are part of the way into the $99 and not getting the new cab config GUI either. If you have jam points to spend especially, the upgrade is the price of several models...so...if you know you want 1 or 2 of the new models, might as well pay the upgrade and get the new features too.

The Deluxe just bundles up all current models with the upgraded AT4 features into a pack for $300

Are you sure? That is not what I understood.

The IK Multimedia AmpliTube Custom shop page looks like it is still for AT3. But, in my User Area / My Products section it says:
New Features:
3D Cab Room
New Gear Models based on British iconic amps and cabinets
New Acoustic Sim stomp
Signal Routing enhancement
UltraTuner
8-Track Recorder DAW in standalone version
Looper in standalone version
Deluxe is aimed primarily at people new to AmpliTube. It does not have any exclusive features, but includes a total of 115 gear models. It does not include all current gear models, - by my reckoning there are about 290 gear models currently in the Custom Shop.

I can never be sure about IK stuff because they always keep the upgrade paths and options as complicated as possible. Ask peter.

Someone else said they were able to get the new rooms called up in AT custom shop, I didn't try it though so i don't know. But it sounds reasonable that the 3d cab room is only on paid upgrade of the software.

It bundles a few new gear models. You can also buy those in the custom shop if you don't want to upgrade the software

Signal routing enhancement, what is that exactly? Maybe there is more, but mainly what I see is that you can insert rack effects between the amp and cab..which has limited usefulness. Maybe there is something more?

new acoustic pedal, check. I would assume you can buy this as a model if you don't want to upgrade.

Ultra tuner improvement, check

Looper and 8 track recorder I didn't look into, AT3 had some stuff like that, I never use it. Maybe there is something new there should be listed..definitely.

The Deluxe version does include a damn lot of models, if you haven't bought a lot of models in the past its a good way to get a lot of them to start out with. But IK will come out with more new ones in the future that you will be compelled to buy, rest assured.

Now I've had another look, I'm confused too. ;) Maybe that list I quoted refers to AT4 itself, not to the CS edition.

Anyway, maybe this will help (reposted from earlier and edited). Extracted from the IK Multimedia web pages:

AT3 CS
  • 9 Stompbox Models – Chorus, Flanger, Opto Tremolo, Delay, Wah Pedal, Diode Overdrive, Compressor, Graphic EQ, Volume Pedal (can be controlled by external controller)
4 Amplifiers – American Tube Clean 1, American Tube Clean 2, British Tube Lead 1, Solid State Bass Preamp
    5 Cabinets – 4x10 Open Vintage, 1x12 Open Vintage, 2x12 Closed Vintage, 4x12 Closed Vintage 1, 1x15 Bass Vintage
    3 Microphones – Dynamic 57, Condenser 414, Condenser 87
2 Rack Effects Units – Digital Delay & Parametric EQ

I updated AT3 CS to AT4 CS and I didn't see any practical differences. Sure, there are those new features to look at - if you click them, you get the pop up "if you want to use this feature, go buy..." - so in the end me and for sure some others got another impression by all the promesing marketing blah. I would have demoed the new AT4 software, but didn't see the "try" button. Bought the mesa collection, have lots of other ikm CS amps, some other amp-software, so I will pass on this, even if its tempting to swap out speakers, have more control over the room etc.

its very complicated, I agree and the choices are all further complicated by whether you purchased other models in the past using AT3, or already have all the gear models that came with AT3.

The new routing flexibility also allows you to use stomps in either insert point, between the amp and cab or between the cab and output. You can also use a few of the rack effects in stomp-land, before the amp, but nowhere near all of them.

The stomp-in-a-rack and rack-fx-in-a-stomp insert UIs emulate a rack or stomp device with a stomp or rack unit inside. For stomps in a rack, you can only copy and paste settings at the rack level, not while you have the stomp itself open, but that's not true for rack fx in a stomp "container". A bit odd, but still, these are welcome additions.

You can also save and load named stomp or rack setups, meaning all the devices on a "page", with all their settings, including stomps in racks and rack fx in stomps, which is also great. (Haven't figured out how to rename or delete them from within AT though, don't think you can. Have to quit, do it in the file system, and restart AT.)

All in all, I'd say all that stuff is kind of a huge deal, really big improvement on an already pretty flexible setup.

But curse the marketing folks who didn't allow at least T-Racks fx anywhere in AT -- no Pultec on your standalone guitar, etc >:0

Deluxe is aimed at the new user (especially those who do not have AmpliTube 3) and contains additional models but not additional features beyond what AmpliTube 4 offers.

The new amps/cabs are not offered as individual purchases within AmpliTube 4 Custom Shop, nor or are the features (including Cab Room) available individually. Best deal on those is currently the preorder pricing which ends tomorrow. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube4

Something weird is happening with the stand alone, I lost all my audio/midi settings after using it last night. I set everything up again and relaunched and it seems fine now, I dunno what I might have done, I'm keeping an eye on it from now on though.

Is that ability to switch out the cab speakers limited to only the new AT4 cabs, or can we do it on the old cabs too?

Post

I put together a video going through my hi gain presets if you are into that kind of sound. I'm really enjoying this now. Still would like some fancy reverb pedals though and a hi pass / low pass filter built into the cab section. Granted you can move the microphone away from the cone to tame the high frequency too or just do it within your host.

Just to note, the new Marshalls are pretty good if you are into that kind of thing. The new Marshall cabs are really good sounding too.

No demo, no buy....Theres always a catch with IK, and the latest pressure tactic is the type of thing ive grown accustomed to with them.

I guess they feel like they need to get folks' money before they have a chance to use it.

You can switch any 12" speaker. Old cabs or new cabs.

I agree. I wish there was a HP/LP filter in the cab section. I've been using the parametric EQ in the rack as a substitute. Thanks for the video, I'll check that out.
