wagtunes wrote:The problem is so intermittent that even I can't replicate it at will, which is why it can't be fixed because nobody really knows the cause. I can run Synthmaster for weeks without a problem. Yesterday, I had to delete my temp folder twice.

I'm trying to find some common pattern (something I've done) to cause this but I can't.

If this was repeatable, I am sure it would have been fixed by now.
Checking the temporary folder I slowly get the point about why it might be hard to find the cause and why it is easier to just remove the temporary files.

Thanks for that information - if I ever get struck by that problem I will do my best to get a grip on what might be the cause (since I am a dev myself - not audio though).

Do you loose the bigtone presets, when you delete those files?

No, you just loose temporary files which should all be rebuilt automatically as soon as you restart Synthmaster (as far as I am concerned), but I am very sure that nothing will get lost.

It appears to me that's what's happening is that the temp cache gets corrupted and the synth itself can't find the sound sources, even though they are still there. Deleting the temp file, and in my case having to also close my DAW and reload Synthmaster, "clears up" the cache or "uncorrupts" it and makes it so that the sound sources can be found again. Because if you look at the presets while the sounds aren't found and examine the waveforms themselves, you will notice a straight line instead of the actual shape of the waveform. That must be the synth's way of saying "File not found."

But no, nothing is actually deleted or missing. It's just unable to be found when the problem occurs.

By the way, just happened to me again so I have to close my DAW, delete the temp folder as well as the Synthmaster folder in My Documents as well, and the restart my DAW and reload Synthmaster (it will initialize) and everything will be okay.

It's annoying but not the end of the world.

Guys I'll try to sort this out in v2.8, obviously my fix for 2.7 didnt work entirely.

I had some problems with plugins in general, when the host (DAW) was not started "As Administrator" and in Win7 its user rights were insufficient.

That's why we dont write anything under Program Files folder anymore. we use the documents folder and also public documents folder. Program Files behaves really weird, if you run on Admin you can see different version of the same file.

Could that be part of the problem that I'm having? My Synthmaster, originally 2.5, still resides on my C drive under Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase/KV331Audio. All the temp stuff is in My Documents.

When I upgrade to 2.8, will the new install move everything out of my Cubase directory and if so, will I have to go into Cubase and set the path to My Documents?

Right now my stuff for Synthmaster is essentially in two places.

wait, you said you have v2.5 ?

My first version of Synthmaster goes back to 2.5, I have since upgraded to the latest. But my point was, 2.5 installed under Program Files. You said that the newer versions, starting with 2.8, will not.

Correct?

In regards to the Program Files directory, it's mainly about user writable files. The actual program can still be installed there. But once you start handling files the user writes to, Program Files is typically locked down. Nowadays, user files will typically be located in the User Documents or under ProgramData.

I did notice last night when I dragged/dropped an SFZ file onto the oscillator screen, it opened the Save As dialog pointing to the Program Files directory.

Well, I just had the problem again and now I'm noticing that the only folder that's being created in My Documents is Synthmaster. There is no longer a Synthmastertemp27 folder being created.

Is this a change or is this a bug?

** EDIT ** Never mind. Discovered something interesting.

In an existing project, upon reload, a new temp file doesn't get created. You have to actually bring in a new instance of Synthmaster in order for the temp file to be created.

I'm learning more and more about how this synth works everyday.

The temp files are located at:

Yes, I get this too. Just got the Player and so far three presets by Bigtone (all with the word 'table' in them oddly enough) send the audio into la la land! I've tried it in both Ableton 9.5 and Reaper and it's the same so I'm guessing it's a SynthMaster problem.

At a guess I'd say the 'table' presets are using a feature not available in Player and it's not handling it well but who knows!

I'm on Win 7 32-bit by the way so it's not a Win10 issue.
Hey guys,

please delete the following folder and try again:

c:\users\public\public documents\synthmastertemp27

you can also delete my documents\synthmaster\config\synthmasterconfig.txt file
Great! Thank you! That solved it for me in both S1 and Reaper! (S1 needed to be reset and scan again).

Back to S1 then to use the Scratch Pad :D
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
