Sounds and looks great, but am I missing the upgrade path? $149 is full price, right?

There is no upgrade path really, IK comp'ed people that qualified some credits, and they had the intro period, but beyond that you'll need to wait for a sale for a better price.

Amplitube 4 CS: open any cabinet, and try to right-click on any button to MIDI map it: instant crash of the Amplitube standalone and instant death of Amplitube if opened through a DAW.

I'm sure support will be able to help you. I'm not experiencing this but I'm running the full version on OS X so that may have to do with it. Does the crash say "runtime error"? I have a suport ticket open for a similar cab page right click scenario that the support team are unable to replicate. I suggest you open a ticket with them so that it gains some momentum
