Why so it is! Thanks for the heads-up Peter.

Amplitube 4! What a frustrating piece of software to demo! Sorry Peter, you know I love you (platonically) but for cry'n out loud, IK has managed to take the joy out of demoing their software like no other software developer I've ever encountered before. "What does this preset sound like?" [POPUP: SORRY, YOU DON'T OWN _____ SO YOU'RE S.O.O.L.] "What's this effects loop thing do..." [POPUP: SORRY, YOU DON'T OWN AMPLITUBE 4 CHUMP. BUY IT] Am I not trying the demo now? I'm so confused... When I click on the unlock icon it tells me my version is fully functional... Where are these new Marshalls... wut da WUT? There's no way to try the new Marshalls? I get that IK wants this ala carte model, but the entire thing breaks in the preset browser.

Also noted.. stock digital reverb still sucks. Room sim, still good.. now better. I'm trimming my studio back down to a more ITB nature, and I do love the work flow and sound of Amplitube, but holy moly is it a PITA. I got frustrated and ran back to my Kemper where everything just works with no nag screens. I'd love to check this software out, but it seems that IK has made it nearly impossible. Shame, from what I can tell it sounds great.

@zerocrossing, you probably know all this, but just in case you dn't...

I can't tell if it's the same because I already bought the upgrade, but in AT3, to demo a piece of gear, you'd go into Custom Shop and click its Try button, which got you maybe four days of unrestricted use of that item, after which you had to wai maybe 6 weeks to demo that item again. Once you'd done that, you'd open AT, and the item would be there and usable.

It is true that that all breaks down in preset-land, because you have no way of knowing what gear is needed for each preset, and that's just how it is. I personally don't care that much about the factory presets, but if you do, this model would definitely be annoying.

I'd suggest picking out some pieces you think you might be into, demo them all at once, and see what you can come up with for sounds with the included stuff and those. That's what really matters anyway.

Personally, I dig it. A lot. Not worlds and worlds better than AT3, but it is better, and I can find a lot of stuff I like a in lot of amps and stomps.

I do know about the Custom Shop. I find it really awkward to use. Is there a way of demoing the new Marshalls?

As I said, I can't completely tell, because I already own AT4, which includes them. But if it works like other gear, there should be Try and Buy buttons. Click Try, and it'll confirm with you, which takes more steps than would be great, but it works, you can use gear you're trying for some number of days.

When I click on the link from there it just directs to a 403 forbidden page. In fact all manual links do...

Actually I just tried from my desktop and the manual links work fine. It turns out they just don't work with the Chrome browser on an Android tablet for some reason.

Listening to "This American Life? " No, I suspect I'll listen as long as it's on.

I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Gack. That's disappointing, and pretty stupid, frankly. Ah software. Ah commerce. Whee!

It's neither commerce nor software, it is bad marketing. IK makes all sorts of these sorts of blunders again and again. They really need to reexamine their business tactics IMO, but maybe it is working for them. Frustrating to us for sure, but they made the decisions to limit demos and buy in times to preorder and other things that make you scratch your head and say 'huh?' From my perspective it is counterproductive, but maybe that isn't reflected in their profits.
