Re GUI, while I like big GUI's, Hive's is too big for my taste, it covers almost my entire screen. When I scale it to Sylenth's size, I can't read the labels anymore, I can hardly read them at 100% actually. There is so much empty space on that GUI, why are labels so small and weak? Is first-glance design really more important than usability? Why not pick more appropriate colors for fonts?
When I look at Hive next to Sylenth, Hive looks as if I were looking at it through sunglasses. What is the purpose of that?

Given the size of the GUI, maybe it would make sense to add a Collapse button in order to hide the entire keyboard/matrix panel.

You can easily change the color of labels by editing the Hive.txt script file. Look for Label_Grey and change its hex code.

This is a nice tip.

And here are the codes if needed:

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

OK, I see. But I am afraid I am not nerdy enough to mess with such files just in order to get the GUI right. I think that is a developer's task. Others can do it...

And that is nice of you too EnGee, to provide the codes :tu:

In my mind he did do the job. I'm fairly certain the GUI came up during BETA and the current form is what was decided on.

To be able to make changes at the user level is even better - if one is so inclined.

If not, perhaps there are some that will be happy to assist - providing it doesn't break EULA of course.

What are 16 waves per osc good for? I don't really hear much of a difference beyond, say, 6 or so, nothing that couldn't be achieved via adapting detuning. Same on Sylenth, 6 or 7 or 8 waves basically sound the same to me.

There are Sylenth patches that have all 4 oscillators play the same pitch at 8 x unison. So we figured, we can do that with just two oscillators and the have some freedom to add suboscillators or else to it.

I used to think my hearing was the most important thing.....

Until I got "over 40"

Now, I can't see, can't hear, won't listen, or look. (for reasons other than can't see)..... :D

I will agree though a scalable GUI would be in good fashion :tu:

Oh my 32 waves at once, glad I never check the factory presets :hihi: Whatever 32 waves sound like, I am sure it is irritating 8)

I'm actually surprised there aren't been any skins of Hive, at least that I'm aware of. Most of the other U-He synths have a nice collection of alternative skins, and Hive, to me, seems easier to do.

Nevertheless, this is a very abstract method and a bit hard to get one´s head around...the envelopes of i.e. Synthmaster are an (for me) ideal example of how it should be...
And yet with Synthmaster, you cannot see 2 envelopes at the same time... so there is a LOT of tabbing around

Hive gives all the main modules on one page without tabbing. One can see how all modules are set at one glance and edit without tabbing. The downside is that some functionality has been moved to the Mod Matrix, like the slope for envelope stages.

Taken by itself, I would also prefer dedicated slope controls like Synthmaster. I still find Hive much faster to use though since all 4 envelopes can be seen/edited at once. So in the end I prefer the overall approach of Hive.

And of course Sylenth has no slope control at all
