Well, I did a side by side with the same patch (as close as I could get, I had to turn off the room mic sim because they now seem very different) and there is some difference even in old (I used my old trusty Orange AD30 for the test) emulations. The high end seems a bit less shrill.. maybe that "sag" simulation they're talking about is making a difference. Not a giant difference, but it's there. V4 seems to sound a bit better and the new room simulations are definitely better. I'm still confused as to why they feel the reverb should have been left alone. Holy crap it's bad.

These days I almost exclusively use a Kemper Amp Profiler, which sounds fantastic to me. I did a quick demo of the new Mesa Triple Rect and I couldn't get close to some of the profiles I love (via And44). Overall the software sounded kind of mushy to me. I did still love some of the tones I got from the Oranges though. I always really liked them. I've got enough points saved up to make an upgrade half price, but I'm not sure why I would and IK sure isn't really providing me with any incentive. I'll just stick with what I have since I mainly use it on synths and stuff these days. They really seem to be doing their best to avoid making a sale from this old fan.

As stated, gave up on the "amp sim" game a while ago. Much happier.

Wish I could afford an axefx or a kemper, but I'll have to settle for my very good (surprisingly) firehawk.

Get over the "but what if I want to change the tone or tweak endlessly" routine. Just pick something good, play the part, eq it, be done with it.

(I know, took me 20 years, but better late than never)

I use Amplitube because it was cheaper than a decent amp, maybe that is debatable, but I never really mess with my parts after the fact except eq. I used a Line6 Tone port Gx with Podfarm for years run outside the DAW, recorded to audio within my DAW, and I'm all for picking what works and sticking to it, but it is very similar to what I did with hardware, where I configured different stomps and settings for different things, I really don't feel like I'm doing anything fundamentally different, and the sound is totally acceptable to me, it sounds fantastic for what I do anyhow. Maybe not everyone feels that way, and I see it as just choosing a different amp. And for me, I have a nervous system condition, lounanything overloads my system, even practice amps can be too much for me. So for me personally, software is perfect. The feeling the need to get better and better gear can cut you in software and hardware, look how many guitars some people get. I think software has been very economical for me, probably everything I paid total for Amplitube so far is about $200 US. That is a decent amp, and all things considered, I think Amplitube rates as a decent amp, one with strengths and weaknesses like any you can get.

Zerocrossing, Are you using the NS stick with this stuff?

After the baby came my practice time was seriously slashed so I sold the NS/Stick. Maybe I'll buy one again in the future. It's a great instrument but I already have a few instruments I'm mediocre in. I didn't need another. :hihi:

When I had it though, I was playing it though Guitar Rig. For some reason the sound of the NS/Stick really worked with Guitar Rig in a way that my guitars (an 80s G&L Skyhawk, Steinberger GM4T and Steinberger Q-Bass) never did. These days I use Guitar Rig for synths.

I agree with you on that. There's a lot of "YOU DON'T GET THE FEEL" talk when it comes to all amp sims, but to me that is similar to the "vintage analog synths have never been equalled," rants. I'd always counter that kind of talk with, "well, I get the feel of being able to use ultra high gain sounds at moderate volumes."

Nothing wrong with Line6 stuff. I don't like it all the time but some of it sounds very good to me. I ended up getting a POD 500 to throw in the effects loop of the Kemper for effects types that were not available on the Kemper. (I found a fun trick that a Line6 guitar amp head makes a great "fuzz box" in front of a Kemper profile) I remember back a while ago I went to see Adrain Belew do a solo show and he was running a pair of Line6 combo amps and the show sounded great. Another thing I like about it is how I can assign a lot of things to the pedal and get super interesting expression stuff out of it that the real amp/stomp box guys could only dream about.

That said, sometimes I do long for a nice boutique small combo tube amp. Usually that means I've been playing though headphones too long. :phones:

Oh yeah, if money wasn't an object and I had some great pad where I didn't have to worry about the neighbors, I can think of a few little beauties I'd love to have ;) It's just not realistic for me though.

Zerocrossing, I remember you talking about ns and guitar rig. Wish I new you were selling it.
Congrats on the baby!

You didn't hear? All good product reviews are bought. It's a KVR true-ism.

Will there be an upgrade path for IKMM user who already have sieves on their heads?
