Really like MeldaProduction ... but why? ...

Why does this happen with Melda? People are always complaining about the price and yet what you get for the money is vastly superior to the competition, I can't understand people's perspective on this.
I think this may be one of those things where the low price actually causes problems as it attracts people who are NEVER happy about the price of anything. I dont see as many complaints about, say, Soundtoys, and their plugs are 5 times the price with a quarter of the flexibility... probably because they attract a certain sort of person who is happy to pay for the quality they offer.
Melda products are insanely cheap for what they're capable of. I really feel sorry for Vojtech having to deal with constant complaints.

The reason for sales is simple. You want to get users to buy your products and make them think they've got a good deal. You also want them to buy quickly instead of have them drag their feet and wait to buy. Another reason the weekly sales are great is it's free advertising for Melda. On here and the cakewalk forum there is a new thread about these sales every week where people discuss Melda plugins. Also since it is a regular rotation you know when what you want will be on sale. I don't see the problem. Seems like a smart solution to a marketing problem that also benefits customers.
Other companies like Valhalla have a different philosophy and that's fine, but even though their products are great they are never an impulse buy for me. I know no matter how long I wait they'll be the same price so there is no reason to buy now unless I really need something for a current project.

This is a healthy discussion. I have paid full price some of his plugins but most most of the time I wait for a plugin to come up on sale for rotation. Regardless of value, which is fantastic, it makes sense some people still find it out of their range. We always want more of something we like. It is human nature. A custom bundle option that came around on rotation every once in while would be cool. If I would probably pick up a few more of his plugins but I still fine with the model that is in place. He is at the top of the game in my opinion.

You need an edge when there is so much competition, Vst market is flooded.
Sound toys have many years behind them plus historical reputation of where their Devs came from.
Melda is relatively new amongst the big boys

I think you misunderstood my points.pottering wrote:First you say: "Why all those crazy sales and discounts on and on ? I do not understand such a scheme. Are MeldaProduction trying to force customers to buy bundles? Do not want to quarrel but I like the products but not those sale / discount thing."
But now you want A BUNDLE of Melda plugs for 17€ each (way less most of them cost in the 50% off random sales)?
AND "For every plugin you put in your bundle the cost/plugin ratio sinks"?
Seems your complaint is "the products are not as cheap as I want" but written like it is something MeldaProduction should somehow be "blamed" for.
1st: sales are no bundle discount and vice versa
2nd: When someone could compile a own bundle the cost of a single plugin is clear and also the discount for every added plugin should be clear. A wild sales scheme is not transparentat all
3rd: It's not about the price. In the given example MeldaProduction get more money for lesser plugins. I would also pay more. Simple math: e.g I just want 10 plugins not a whole 26 plugin bundle. I'm not willing to pay for plugins I do not need so I do not buy the bundle. A customer bundle is comprehensible and a win for booth sides (my opinion). 17€ was an example (derived from the CreativeBundle price) let's say 25€ (example) 10x 25€= 250€ I will save 150€ (difference to the CreativeBundle) and Melda get 250€ instead of less or nothing. And when I get addicted to Melda (the first signs are conspicuous) so it's my own misfortune not to buy a cheaper bundle. My point is about transparency instead of sales carousel.

And again it's not about the pricing per se. It's not about the plugin or the company. I'm very happy that a company like Melda exist. topnotch plugins for a fantastic price. I repeate myself but I'm talking about the selling scheme.vectorwarrior wrote:Why does this happen with Melda? BTW: I do not like the Soundtoys plugins (soundwise). But they rarely go on sales.

I think the same as mentioned here before. It is just a try to make customers think they made a big deal.
Just say the price for something is $10000000000 but one can only now and just the next 7 days buy it for $24.95. Customers where forced to buy it now cause they may fear it would never be that cheap. Also they were suggested the product was worth $10000000000 regardless if it may just be worth $1.
Same with MeldaProduction. Just my opinion.
And in terms of KVR these offers just tend to act as thread-pushers.

Hey guys, haven't posted for awhile -
Could it be that the 50% off price is the actual price that Vojtech needs to make a living? The "regular" price is perhaps the price that he would like, but if he was so adamant about it he would never put stuff on sale.
Like Valhalla, right?
It looks like Vojtech is using some simple marketing psychology here, I think, and it is actually pretty cool...people like "getting deals". Well, I do!
yeah, I know you like Melda plug-ins...me too, but "vastly superior" is quite a statement...don't say that on GearSlutz!
Of course they are good, and when you consider the prices, the update model, feature requests... and that we can post here on KVR and B.S. with Vojtech, well, I like being a Melda customer! Oh yeah, and the new plugs that he adds to the bundles...generous!!!
But I promised myself I would not buy any more Melda until I can get the Total Bundle - there are a few software developers where I want all their stuff, and Melda is one of them.
So that is Grizzellda's $0.02. Well, let's rather make that $0.01, because after all, it is half price week!!!

In the recent interview he did, he talks about his "software kernel", and how he has developed techniques for rapid updates and new plug-in ideas. This makes alot of sense, and could explain how "one guy" could maintain 70+ plug-ins at a high level of efficiency...and why Melda plugs all look the same!
To continue - in another thread I joked with Vojtech about MPowerSynth resembling a spreadsheet. All I meant, was that to the average onlooker, that synth looks exactly like a Melda compressor, or a Melda EQ, or...any of 75+ other Melda products...it has no real "synth look" to it, if that makes any sense.
Then I mentioned Hive...see, now that one looks f*ck'n cool, man. But still, MPowerSynth has that practical Melda design, if you want to build waveforms, adjust harmonics, well it is pretty good for that I'll say...so not complaining, just observing!
I'm trying to get to the bottom line here...what I want to say...if I can just stay focused on the thread?
I like Melda plug-ins because they are unique... "forward thinking, ultra modern"... Because Vojtech is a cool dude who likes to laugh, and who I think really loves digital technology. Because he really does give us tremendous value "for the money" etcetera, etcetera....

Hehe thank you folks for positive comments and not so much thank some of you for neverending complaints
So, first it's actually not true that MeldaProduction lives from the sales. Lots of people follow the sales, yes, but far from all of them. The idea is simple:
- If you have money, just buy it right away. After all the prices are very low, especially considering the competition and quality. I'm often thinking about increasing prices
.
- If you don't have money, you can wait and get it for less. But you may need to wait for some time...
- And maybe you simply want to check what's on sale...
I originally thought this would be a psychological experiment, but I'm 100% satisfied with the success of the whole model. It is extremely transparent! You always know that the plugin you want will be on sale soon, within about 3 months, so you can always decide to wait or not to wait.
Seems that the only complaint here is that you might buy something and it will get on sale next week. Sure, but here you at least know that it can happen, so you can say "money has more value to me", or "time has more value to me than money". With other models you simply don't know when it will happen! Look at waves, that do actions like 3x a week
, now that's pathetic
.
EDIT: Also since the sequence is actually pretty much repeating
, if you missed a sale, you pretty much know you'd have to wait a long time. So you can actually plus minus count how much time it takes for the next sale of the plugin you want
. Just follow the newsletters
.
