They definitely don't suck. But what they are and what they actually do is up for discussion.

I owned this pack of plugs when it was 32 bit. They were useful, but for the most part they seem to be various combinations of compression, harmonics, saturation and EQ. The flagship products don't actually tell you what's under the hood, and that can be problematic when you are trying to figure out what your mix really needs.

Some of the lesser products actually ARE labelled "EQ" but probably can't compete with EQ plugs that you already own.

They can be fun to mess around with, and they are probably counting on the fact that, at $18, you won't mind giving them a go. But since they were originally introduced, many other reasonably priced superior products have hit the market, making this package a tougher choice. In fact, your DAW can probably already do what this pack offers.

As an aside, if you're interested, search for old threads referencing this company. They have a rather storied presence on KVR that goes back years. Too much to recount here, but interesting reading nonetheless.

Thanks! I'll have to check out some of the demos first. Maybe there will be something worthwhile. :)

The dev Crysonic used to be a member of KVR, but is permabanned because

So most def, check out the demos before buying anything, even though updates are promised they might never arrive.

wow.. was just reading that thread you linked. I think I'll pass on buying anything. I liked what one guy said, use your money towards supporting a small reputable dev instead of buying those plugins. Might just buy Valhalla like I've wanted to.

Thanks to Numanoid for posting this deal on the no-nonsense thread:

"Group buy on for Archetype Kontakt bundle is met (took only a couple of hours) and is live: Use the Redemption Code SFABKGD to save 50% off (ends March 14th)"

Has anybody taken the plunge? Music Radar gave the Ableton version 4.5 stars out of 5, citing, among other things, great bang-for-buck at full price, but aside from that, there isn't much info about this.

As an intro to the bundle, Sonic Faction gave away Whosh Machine for free April last year.

I'm quite happy with that product, so I am also tempted to buy the whole enchilada now

8 scripted libs, and 800 patches in total, Kontakt Player compatability is a pretty neat deal.

EDIT: So I got my extra funding, and with some virtual cash I have earned from previous deals I bought it for as little as €87,79 :hyper:

I got delivered a serial to register in Kontakt Player. The content of Archetype is only 1GB, and the load went down in less than 10 seconds. Which is excellent

I think that is a good thing that it is not more than 1GB, I was afraid this was one of those HDD guzzling libs

So the ordering and delivering process went excatly as I wanted, now comes the part of installing and getting it up and running.

That is sort of small given that there are eight instruments. There must not be much in the way of deep multi-sampled content.

The thing is that these libs feel more like synths in their own right than sample libs, it is some of the most advanced Kontakt scripting I have seen so far.

I'm really happy I bought it, sounds are excellent, and very tweakable.

The big red flag is that it is CPU intensive, you need a good system to have full enjoyment of it. I think 16GB RAM is needed

Thanks for the heads up on the CPU hit and the initial impressions.

One of the cool things with the libs in Archetype is patch morphing, but trying to do that in real time totally kills my 8GB system, CPU spikes at 70% or over in FL Studio

Frustrating. I also prefer smaller libraries but there's no point if it kills the CPU.
