But that seems to have changed now. Did Ableton get it right this time and can we consider Live as close to perfect as it gets in DAW land these days?

Or are people just taking a rest from the bitching?
Refill the vitriol and get ready for the next round? :P
Have you sold and rebought Live as many times as me? :)

It's possible, although this time I think it's going to be a keeper :D

What do you have in mind? The ability to run both views at once on different monitors was a huge improvement to me. It let's me create loops in session view and, without pausing the sequencer, drag them into the arrangement view to create a track all in real time. It's very fast and fun to go from nothing to a fully improvised track. If you don't run Live with two monitors at this point, you don't know what you're missing. Maybe they could offer a hybrid view, of some sort, for people doing live laptop work. That could be nice.

I do wonder why you can't drag audio and MIDI files from your file system direct into session and arrangement views... That would be useful.

I think a lot of people jumped ship to Bitwig before Live 9.5 came out ... so there were a lot of licenses for sale last year. Not so many now. I've stuck with Live since v4 and grabbed suite and maxforlive early on (making it relatively cheap). It's been my perfect DAW for a long time, and just keeps getting better. I had to buy a new computer when they stopped supporting XP (v9.2) but the performance increase and new features were well worth it. Maybe I'm a just a fanboi :hihi:

BTW there's a live suite license for sale in the marketplace today.

I could sell my license of Live Standard. Not really using it. Give an offer via PM if you are interested.

Sweet spot for me will be when you can predetermine audio clip lengths before recording into cells. Like you can with midi.

Just as a chime in...

Push 2 is great for Ableton Live. Maschine hardware is great for Maschine. Maschine in ANY other DAW is very convoluted.

Live 9.6 is quite a masterpiece, with some flaws. And of course those really center around the arranger/session views. It is not extreme, but it can be uncomfortable which can slow your work down and crack creativity.

But YES, I would say 9.6 is a very sweet spot.

Would love to see a drag screen split option for my laptop.

Perhaps the ones who used to bitch about it moved to Bitwig. I Know I did. And happy about it.

?
Just tested in Win 10, and you can drag both formats from a file manager to Live.

You may have problems if your file manager/explorer is not running as admin. (Maybe both Live and the file manager need to be running as admin)

[edit: I assumed Mac doesn't have these kinda problems or works similarly regarding user/admin access]

Maschine in any other DAW is not "very convoluted". It's IMPOSSIBLE. The iOS app integrates better than Maschine.

Till now I'm yet to hear ONE solution from someone who can tell me how to change a kit without losing all the necessary convoluted routing settings to get it to work (as a plugin).

So the ONLY real way you can use maschine is if you've already completed your project in Maschine and for some reason want to integrate it in another DAW project. If you're starting from scratch using maschine as a plugin to build your song you're shit out of luck.

I agree and you did use the word convoluted...so I stick to convoluted, heh.

Seriously, SOMETHING needs to be done about this. Even a ONE STEP ROUTING button that acted as a macro would be quite helpful. What really gets me is when it has been a few weeks since I did it, and I have to jump through hoops to figure out AGAIN what I am doing wrong to get it to work! :help:

I found a copy now, so I'm going to (re)discover it for myself. I only recently started preparing my brain to get back into some real music making, and working in Logic and Reason, I kept longing for Live's workflow.

I recently updated to Live Suite, and I have to say.. Jesus F. Christ.. Live is one hell of a DAW these days.
What an amazing creative tool! I'm finding it hard to come up with reasons to use anything else.
