Thanks for clearing that up. Yeah I know Reaper has its own plugs but they are so bad to look at, I cannot bring myself to use them. They look like stuff from Windows 95.aMUSEd wrote:Because they use a very specific format that is only supported by Cubase and Sonar (and only on Windows). However most midi fx plugins don't use that format and work fine in Reaper and other hosts, plus Reaper has it's own built in midi fx as well.JJ_Jettflow wrote:Really? How come Frank's MID FX would not work in it? I started in V2 and it soon went to V3; that being when I bought it.bmanic wrote:Midi FX have been possible in Reaper since forever.JJ_Jettflow wrote: Could you also tell me how to use midi FX in Reaper as well. I think that is another thing Reaper lacks as well....at least in V3-V4.
REAPER is amazing.

Actually they don't look that dissimilar to Frank's MIDI FX - they also have a very basic interface. However you can also use most third party midi fx too.

Yeah Frank's does look pretty cheap when you come to think of it. Of course I could not tell since I could not get them to load.aMUSEd wrote:Actually they don't look that dissimilar to Frank's MIDI FX - they also have a very basic interface. However you can also use most third party midi fx too.

Take a look at one of the v5.20pre-releasesJJ_Jettflow wrote:And Reaper's Score editor? Can't seem to find that either.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

I've used Cubase since it was called Pro 24 and ran on my Atari.aMUSEd wrote:You don't use Cubase?JJ_Jettflow wrote:Yeah Frank's does look pretty cheap when you come to think of it. However, what I was attempting to do was move to Reaper as my main DAW and at that time Reaper was not able to do groove quantizing. Not an easy way. Not like in Cubase or Sonar at least. It did a very simple humanize function that I did not care for and was trying to see if Frank's more in-depth humanizer would be a good replacement for groove quantizing. Ultimately, I went back to Cubase...as always.
Not sure if that has been improved yet in Reaper.

Yeah, Reaper has had iterative groove quantize for donkeys via SWS.
Regarding the chord track in Cubase, it does look cool. You can use Rapid Composer in any host to flesh out ideas and get chord progressions, suggestions etc too. Keep it live and/or drag n drop tracks into your host of choice.

Rapid Composer does indeed look interesting. $249 is a bit of a hefty price tag though seeing you can get Chord Track in Cubase Essentials for $99. But I can see where this program does something different and I am definitely checking out the demo.Groundhog #31684 wrote:Yeah, Reaper has had iterative groove quantize for donkeys via SWS.

To be fair, Rapid Composer LE only costs $99 and v2 was released 3 years ago, with a v2 license being valid until v3.99. That's only $45 per version, which added on to Reaper's $30 per version still works out cheaper than Cubase Lite Lite Lite.

Yes there is a LE version as well so that might be the place to start. I can see this being very handy for me as I suffer from Carpel Tunnel Syndrome so trying out different ideas can literally become painful!

In response to the original post...
Yes, my current install of Reaper 5.17 comes in at around 10mb! And my formerly beloved Sonar says it has a minimum install of 5gb. One of these things is not like the other! And I know Sonar comes with all sorts of goodies included, but so does Reaper. And I don't often use many of those extras anyway. Pretty cool!
I had dabbled with Reaper several times in the past, but I just couldn't seem to make sense of it! This time, for whatever reason, it's making much more sense! Some things still seem odd, and mysterious, but most of it... appears very learnable (might be a real word!).
Maybe this isn't the right thread for this, but has anyone had any success converting Sonar .cwp files to a Reaper track format? As I'm getting more and more familiar with Reaper, I'd really like to convert everything to Reaper files, and lose Sonar completely.
Any suggestions or directions to links to learn more would be appreciated! Thanks!
BTW, after testing dozens of themes, here's my fave, although I modify many of the colors. But I will try many themes listed in this thread too.

Well, they use a C++ compiler, but from what I've seen of Justin's coding style on Github, it's much closer to C than C++. He doesn't use the C++ standard library, and doesn't use most of the C++ object oriented features.bungle wrote:Pretty sure Reaper is written in C++ against the Cockos C++ Libraries, EXT was written in Delphi.
Why did EXT fail, he decided to rewrite XT, and make it super dumbed down, after making promises he did not deliver on, good will only goes so far.

Weird, Justin says it is C++
When you remove all the content from other hosts, the install size is actually not that much bigger (The Reaper application alone on OSX 64 bit is 64 mb haha)
When this nonsense was being bandied about years ago as another Reaper hype nonsense "Reaper is the only host that is this small blah blah blah blah" i happily pointed out that not only was EXT smaller, i even showed it being run from a floppy disc, this Reaper is small nonsense stopped immediately.
Somehow it has surfaced its totally ridiculous head again though, thanks for that haha
Pretty sure your Reaper is entirely broken, Reaper hasn't had an install size of less than 10mb since, well forever really, or do you mean the installer size, the installer is massively compressed and the install size itself is much much bigger, in fact this whole hype of Reaper being smaller in size than most other hosts is pretty much just that "Hype"SciFiArtMan wrote:In response to the original post...
