I decided against it. I'm happy with Shimmer and Blackhole isn't different enough to warrant the buy IMO. In fact, Shimmer is actually more versatile to me with the dark and bright options.

I've finally come to the conclusion that too many options just result in not ever getting anything accomplished.

Plus, I'll take Sean's support any day over a big company like Evintide. I'm very happy supporting him with all he does.

The exact dilemma I'm experiencing as well, and after A-Bing both I'm still confused. And then watching Simons use of both in a chain makes me thing I need both, haha!

I think I mentioned the ribbon control as being the major reason for finally purchasing it, not many verbs can be twisted like that in real time and especially not by programming a single slider which you can just play with creatively. Some of the Valhalla plugs can be twisted in real time without producing too many artifacts, ÜberMod is king in that respect actually, none of the 2CAudio plugins can be altered in real time, you only have to look at them and they start crackling.

And concerning the sound: it just sounds special to my ears and revisiting it after almost 4 years I wondered why I did not buy it in the first place in 2012.

Well, that deal was too good to pass on it. Bought @ JRRShop, for a blazing 38 €.

Got the license within a split second, looking forward to use it.

I think a better comparison is Valhalla Shimmer vs. Blackhole.

I'd love to bite on this plug, but really see no need as I have Shimmer. (which is always that price BTW )

Hearing it with something I own, and familiar with is helpful for me.
I have a better sense how it stacks up and sonic differences.
Its all useful.

Personally, you cant own too many reverbs IMHO.

Glad you found it helpful and I agree, the more verbs the better, and Blackhole is one interesting verb.

As obviously a lot of people chain their reverbs, how do i have to understand the effect of chaining? Do the reverbs simply get layered? Or do you set some kind of predelay. So that the signal of the first reverb, if possible, controls when the chained reverb should start? Also, do you apply some special settings so the signal doesn't get muddy or anything? I listened the examples from Simon, when he chained Blachole and Shimmer, and it sounds really nice, and i like the looong tail. Just wondering if there's some special trick to not get it too muddy, which i would suspect would happen, when reverbs get layered.

One man's muddy is another man's celestial pad drone

The key is to parallel /dry mix them to suit, if you want to retain clarity. I personally like to drown things in reverb and treat the reverb like an instrument in itself.

What I have found is that running reverbs parallel tends to have more clarity in the final mix.
Having said that, running small reverbs with little pre-delay into a larger reverb will work better then running a large reverb into another large reverb.

A different effect like chorus, EQ, or delays, will often give better results when running effects in a chain.

But, experimentation has no rules.....
