No I'm showing you that your issue is not with samples but with UI/Categoresation/Workflow etc. You don't need to scroll thru, there other ways of organizing - pre-sorting, tagging, description search etc.

And the same problem is applicable to presets. And it's not drum samples vs drum synths anymore.
I've tried all of those ways of organizing stuff that you mention. They don't change the basic dynamic much at all. So instead of auditioning a long list of 200 possibilities, I do a search for a word term that might get me what I want which returns 15 results. So I audition them, but am not happy with any of them. Then I do a different search and so on. I do not find that words do a good job of describing the nuances of sounds (just look at threads about the word 'warm').

Then I find a sample set that sounds good at first glance. Then I play some notes and realize that while I like how it sounds at one velocity, I don't at another. Or later I decide I want to change something about it, then I am back to searching through other samples. Then I don't find a sample set that is just right so I start trying to layer them to get what I want... more sample searching. Big sample sets tend to be slow to load.

Yes, presets can have the same problem, if you treat presets like samples. But there is a flexibility there for someone who wants to do it differently. Each preset is also a template that if I know the synth well can be morphed into any other preset. Synthesis is more sonically diverse so the way samples make up for that is by having lots of them.

I like to use Geist which is sample based. However, I have very few samples for it. It is adept at sampling my own synths. So sometimes I make kits of my own synth presets for a particular use... It's a convenient way to reduce CPU and then when I am done, I delete the samples...

I would still prefer synthesis to samples even without the organizational down-side of samples. Samples are static recordings. A lot of effort goes into hiding that fact, but it is still so.

I've been partial to Druminatrix. The marketing almost writes itself. :-)
You forgot to add 3 x's at the end (Druminatrixxx). This would generate extra cash from sales.

You-tube tutorials would also do very well

Hmm, I was expecting this in the current survey..
"What should be the name of the upcoming u-he plugin?
1. Druma Queen
2. Druminatrix
3. Druminatrixxx"
:D

That would be too much of a give away then, wouldn't it?

Nope.
In reminiscence of the Sisterhood, Dr. Uh-valanche would be more suitable. But the Boss (no pun!) isn't that much into Goth ;)

I would love to see a drumsynth! In my opinion there has not really been a lot of good vst drumsynths. What I really would love is several separate synths dedicated to specific drum sounds (hihat, snare, kick etc). I don't need an onboard sequencer. Would prefer to just use the sequencer in my daw.

Have you checked out Drumspillage? http://www.audiospillage.com/drumspillage.html

Thanks! Looks to be Mac-only unfortunately, so that rules me out :(

Another module-based option is in NI Maschine 2.0, but it requires you to run the whole Maschine-wrapper, which is a bit of a hassle if you really don't need Maschine. Would be cool if they could release them as separate plugins.

But something from U-he would be even better :)

Yeah... I really would love something like this, but coming from U-he :-)
@Urs: Please don't go into "Another drum maschine" direction, but just create great separate drum modules, e.g. for kick, snare, shaker, etc.

A U-he drum synth would get my money directly.

Well, Urs and team.... Please don't let us hold you back to elaborate further:

If a u-he drum machine was to come into fruition at some point it would be great if there was one main plug-in and then separate mini plug-ins for each Sound Module.

(The user could then choose to load a kick drum module onto a single pad in say, Maschine or a cell in Live's drum rack, a Snare module on a different pad/cell etc... being able to mix and match without having to load the whole 'main' plug-in and worry about the midi/audio routing typical of these 'multi-out plug-ins would be wonderful) :)
